I passed a HMMWV with this hard top trailer today in Western KY. Any ideas on what this hard top is? I have seen canvas tops before, but this one is new to me.

This truck was in the same group of vehicles if the bumper code tells anything?

Stuart, they are made by a company named Amtech and are actually called a helmet hard top. You can Google them. There isn't much info on the web. They are made from fiberglass and can hold 500 lbs in the roof.

The bumper numbers are for the 149th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, 103rd Chemical Battalion, KY NG.

Many thanks all for the information.
Perhaps an after market add on for 35 scale M-1101 and M-1102 Light Tactical Trailers could happen some day?
I guess KY NG implies other units might use this as well?
Thanks

You are correct. Although I served in the Regular Army for 30 years, I tried to keep up with the Chemical guys in the WA NG (I was the senior Chemical Officer in the Pacific Basin) for several years after I retired (I also spent five years as a Regular Army tank officer before I became an NBC defense officer). The WA NG have been using a very similar shelter for thier trailers and some of thier HMMWVs, as well as their civilianized response PUs which are used by the Air Guard guys doing the domestic CBRNE jobs. They keep thier electronic and detection response ready gear in them for thier homeland defense response mission. I don't know for sure if they use these shelters in AD units, but being that the 103rd Chemical Battalion is a tactical unit rather than a domestic response unit, in turn belonging to a Maneuver Enhancement Brigade (a combined arms team that does exactly what the name emplies-- they "enhance" the maneuver space with Engineer and Chemical as well as other units to enable "throughput" to the battle area). Given that knowledge, I suspect these shelters can be found in many other types of units as well.
