Saw a P51 Mustang fly by yesterday.
Didn't pay much attention.
Then saw this.
Must had fallen down a Worm Hole and traveled back in time.
Again...
But what I really liked was this.
Not something you see every day...
They were actually firing that thing (and a MG42 on an AA Tripod).

Very cool. I've seen a few old werbirds flying and on the ground, but possibly the highpoint was back when Love Field in Dallas hosted an air show, and our house was under the flight path for the return loop, and all kinds of stuff flew over, low and slow. It's just hard to describe the sound and feel of multiple radial engines on the same aircraft, but I spent a lot of time during those afternoons with the hair on my arms standing up.

Just for your information:
That halftrack is built on top of the chassis from an OT-810.
The OT-810 was produced post-war in Czechoslovakia. They kept most of the construction and swapped out some parts, the tracks for instance. Those are a dead give-away.

Those rubber pads are really worn down ...
Lots of reenactors have built their Sd.Kfz. 251 replicas on OT-810 chassis

I think the Mustang and B-17 are part of a group of planes that travel around the country. We had them at the airport by my house- there was also a B-24 and a B-25. They stayed for 3 days, offered rides and tours of the planes.

They advertised a ME262 but it was not there on Sat.
The 251 (or OT 810) is from the SC Armor Museum in Columbia.
I could not verify linage of vehicle (you can see the line to talk to the crew).
Apparently their first trip to show.
That actually popped some 20MM rounds and had a MG42 going too (blanks of course).
I found that to be rather enjoyable...

The B-17 looks like the Madras Maiden. Sadly I think only 11 are still flying. Chuckie used to be at Alliance airport in Ft. Worth. I saw this one at the Cavanaugh Museum a few years ago:
They were nice enough to let me know when they were doing a complete maintenance tear down on the this P-51D so I could get photos for a crash scene. (And the P-51 chopper I'm still building)
They were even nice enough to lower the flaps on this C-47 for me to help with another build.
Speaking of C-47s, I took my family on a Christmas flight on this one:

With any luck I'll be jumping out of one next June, if not sooner.
If you don't know whom to be charitable to this year, think of these restoration groups. Without their help we'd have far fewer examples than we do now.

I was at Falcon Field years ago when the P-51 took off. Saweeeet! I was there doing traffic control when they fired up the FW190 for the first time after it was rebuilt, NICE (also met Saburo Suchi). Sadly the museum moved some years later.
Coolest thing with the bombers was one day hearing the drone of radials and a B-29 circled the area on its way to landing. Still high up but the windows in the house vibrated.
Many years ago there was a WWI fighters club flying nearby. They used to dog fight over the area on Saturdays. Sadly chased out by what is now known as the PC crowd. It was too "dangerous".
I've taken rides in the Ex-OT's and the US M3 half tracks. The OT is quiet, but the M3 is noisy as all hooey. The M8/M20's are very quiet.
