The M501 transporter/loader:

doesn't look as if it is capable of long distance travel, i.e. anything more than a few miles.
How was it moved when the HAWK battery moved to a new site?
The launcher is on a trailer which can be pulled by a truck.
Was the M501 loaded onto a lowbed/flatbed trailer which could be pulled by a truck? Carried on the loadbed of a truck?

I recall seeing them in the bed of a 5 ton when I was in Wildflecken back in the 80's. There was a HAWK unit there and on occasion you would stuff moving between their motor pool and the tac sites they manned in the area.

According to TM-9-1450-500-20, "A M36 2.5 ton truck is used to transport the loader when distance is a factor."

The M36 is a long-wheelbase variant of the M35 truck.

Here's a drawing from TM-9-1450-500-10 :

Danish HAWK bateries moved the loaders on MB 911 trucks for deployment. I drove one.

I had the privilege of doing some field testing with USMC Hawk units at Camp Lejeune and at Yuma Proving ground in the early 80's. Indeed, the transporter was used only around the immediate battery area, and for long distance transport, it was placed into the long bed M35 truck which was common in Hawk and engineer units at the time. The transporter moved with quite a "jerky" movement as I recall, because of the road wheel and track arrangement, when it was empty. It could carry three missiles at a time for reloading, so it was very efficient.

Hi!
German Army (Bundeswehr) used a 5t civilian developped truck DB 1017 4x2 which was also used to tow the rest of the HAWK towed components. Long ramps had been laid to drive the loader onto the load bed.
