Italeri BergeTiger
Italeri BergeTiger ... part 2
I just dull coted this tonight. Only pastels left to do and maybe some rust and oil streaks. I broke off one of the machine gun arms, which will have to be replaced when the machine gun is added. I have Tristars DAK figure set to collect tomorrow, so a few of them will man this ... eventually!
All comments and critic are welcome!
Decals placed using Microset and microsol. Great result.

I love these recovery vehicles. Frank, you have done a fantastic job with this one. I have followed you on this build and I must say that I am very impressed with the end results. The finish is superb. You did a great job laying down the decals. At first I thought that you might have painted them on. The road wheels and tracks look great. the scratches in the paint are very convincing and not over done. The vehicle shows wear without abuse. Bravo and three cheers

Very nice. Everything blends very well.
I thought you had finished this one a while ago.
Shows how observant i can be.

Wow, outstanding work ! Painting, weathering, detailing, and decals are all very well done :-)
One thing I'd like to point out is, this vehicle was NOT a revovery vehicle. I was a field-modified Tiger I, used as a mine setting/clearing vehicle. Only one or two Tigers (damaged ones) were ever converted. Both served in Italy 1944-45.
You did a real nice job on a interesting subject.
Cheers !!

Frank
Another absolute stunner from you. Your work here, in my opinion, is some of the best you have ever done. The first pic, i.e. the close up of the zim/decal shows the workmanship quality as pics this close, expose any and all flaws--and there are none here--Congrats!
The overall paint/weathering scheme is just outstanding, -- this model looks shopworn and roughed up--very very convincing. If you can't find a place to display this one--I'll send you my address and take it off your hands (hehe).
Great work again Frank.

Looks good. The weathering and wear is very nicely done. Did you make the zim?

Thanks very much for your very kind words Gentelmen. This is my first tiger and first zimmerit. A lot of help was recieved on this model. I used PE grills for the first time also on this. They are the Tamiya tiger 1 grills. Fit nice and add a lot to the finished product. Maybe Ive just been bitten by the detailing bug! Damn .... itīll cost me a fortune.
There has been a lot of talk about what this "Bergetiger" was for, and the consenus now is a mine setting/clearing vehicle. But according to some sources its 3 of them were converted. See this link from Petro .
The paintwork was made in a lot of stages. I guess maybe 15 to 20 evenings (max half hour each time). Lots of washes, pin washes and filters to tone down the camo. Im very pleased with it.
Another thing Im very pleased with is microset and microsol system for decals. This will be the preffered method from now on. Amazing results.
I bought Tristarīs DAK crew today at the Stockholm IPMS Open. A few of these will be the crew for this. Really excited about trying these out. Look good in the box anyway.
Again thanks for all your nice words ... the support means everything. It makes me push myself that step further every time.
If ever this beastie is not wanted ... it is already bookmarked for Steve! Although it will take centre stage in my model cabinet for a while .... Steve, I hope you are a patient man! ;-)
Cheers!

Frank... wow!!! That looks GREAT!!
I especially like how you have managed to make the vehicle look used and a bit worn, without making it look overdone.... that is especially hard to do. Excellent use of weathering - VERY realistic!!!
If Steve can't take it off of your hands, I would be happy to :-)
Super job!!!

Did you make the zim?
No. The Italeri kit comes with the zimmerit already molded in place. Good idea but it has some disadvantages. Its too perfect all over. I suppose I could have spent a bit of time and sanded away some of it, but as this was the first zimmerit job .. I let it be. I believe their panther A comes with zimmerit also. Not sure about anything else!
When I dont want it, and its sent to Steve .... I will make him sign a clause that when he doesnt want it, it goes to you Jeff! #:-)

Frank one fine job you done there, and probably the one thing you never planned on was being a salesman for Microset, and Mcrosol, this job here done made me put them on my list for sure, before I wasn't decided, but after seeing these close ups, I'm sold, and I know it wasn't no slide of hand, that it was the real thing.
That must be one of Italeri's newer models, cause it wasn't in the list of the models I'm getting, I think the newest I got was the Leopard II, and I really like it, it didn't have any of the problems that the review said they had, but it did have a few minor sink holes in the suspension pieces that I already fixed. I just hope it looks half as good as yours.

Nice job looking good. What kind of extras did you use or is this box stock? Who's paint did you use also? And I can't beleive you got Italeri decals to sit down with Microset and sol I usually have to resort to Solvaset.
