I'm pretty T-62 ignorant overall and confused by the multiple T-62 kits from Trumpeter and to the who/when/where applicability. I realize the kits have some issues but I'm specifically interested in which kits are applicable as much OOB for:

1) Soviet use in the Soviet-Afghan war, the variants for example in the Star decals sheet (http://www.star-decals.net/35-883.html). I see Trumpeter have released at least two kits with the BDD armor but I'm not clear if one, neither, or both were the type used during the war. And which are the non-BDD ones that were used?

2) Iraqi use in either/both ODS and 2003 OIF. I see at least two, maybe three, kits look to be specifically Iraqi versions, but are these from ODS, OIF, or ok for both?

I think these are all the Trumpeter T-62 kits released, can someone give me a T-62 breakdown for dummies relative to my two applicable interests above:

376 - Mod.62
377 - Mod.72
1546 - Mod.60
1547 - Mod.62 Iraqi modification
1548 - Mod.62 Iraqi Regular Army
1549 - ERA Mod.72 (if I understand, this isn't really Iraqi?)
1550 - Mod. 75 w/plow
1551 - Mod.75 (Mod.62+KTD2)
1552 - Mod.75 (Mod.72+KTD2)
1553 - Mod.84 (Mod.62 modification)
1554 - BDD Mod.87 (Mod. 72 modification)
1555 - ERA Mod.62
1556 - ERA Mod.72

I thought those familiar with the T-62 and the kits would already know what versions are what. What links would be beneficial? To the boxart? To trumpeter website?

The main T-62 types used by 40th Army tank units in Afghanistan were:

-T-62 mod.1972/mod.1975.
The first one had a DshK machine gun(6th picture posted by H.P.), the second had the KDT-1 lazer rangefinder mounted above the gun.

For mod.1972 you can use Trumpeter's 00377.

For mod. 1975 you can use Trumpeter's 01550(without mounting the mine plow), or Trumpeter's 01552(that has the later KDT-2 lazer rangefinder).

-T-62M and its variants(M-1,M-2).
Presented in the first 5 pictures H.P. posted, it is also the type portrayed in Star Decals set you mention.You need to use Trumpeter's 01553 kit for this version.

I find it easier to ID pics of the real thing, then to visualy ID the Trumpeter kit (boxart) to the name they give the kit.

For ODS, I'd use the kit with the Chinese sideskirts. (Iraqi Regular Army)

What kit would one use to build this beauty or one very similar?
Any better shots of the rocket set up? Would I be wrong to think the Trumpeter Hind UB-32 rockets could be used?

According to the captions I've found, these are indeed 57mm UB-32 rocket pods.

FYI, kit 00376 was their first T-62 and has the squashed engine deck. They included replacement parts in 01546, so if you want an early tank go for 01546.

Sprue Q and PE-E are the new pieces. The corrected deck is also in 01550. I don't know if it is appropriate for any of the other models; many of those use a different deck altogether.

I’m impressed that H P found two shots of the same vehicle, one from the reverse angle, never mind asking for better shots! And, for my money, these look like the armaments from a Hip 8. Which happens to be available as a kit from Lem kits. Or, I have two Hinds, and these rocket pods as spare if someone wants to trade for them. PM if interested.

Just one important note,#1549 T-62 ERA Mod. 1972 Iraqi version is more than what if I think.

Dio park has a three pact of US-32's in plastic for adding to vehicles. Doesn't appear to have the pylons. I need to see what I have as I got a some weapon sprues from a fellow modeler when he finished his Hind.

Any thoughts on the correct kit to use? Even if its just the folks in the know saying the details are not clear and so any kit can be used is good information.
