Recent update: Model was painted OD using Tamiya acrylic olive drab paint mixed with about 25% Tamiya flat black. I then used slightly lighter shade of the paint mix (OD plus about 15% black) to add subtle shading. White stars were painted using masks provided in Eduard PE set. Model was then sprayed with Future to make surface glossy in preparation for decals and washes (a.k.a. filters). Only decals on front bumper came from Academy kit. Most are from the sheet I designed and had custom printed by Mike Grant. I also used dry transfers from Verlinden (stencil under fuel filler cap), Archer (TP25 tire pressure marking on rear fenders) and decals from Reheat (placards on dashboard) and Italeri (TP20 on front fenders, from Jeep kit).

Your build is as always superb. The only thing is the star on the hood. It is too far forward. All our mutts had the star just behind the windshield latch. The star is pointing in the right direction though which I thank you for. Most model kits instructions show it backwards. The only other thing and I am probably jumping the gun is the transmission stick knob and the steering wheel ring are black.

Many mutts in Nam had the star where I put it :

Yes, they will be black. I will paint various detail parts a bit later.

Pawel - if you notice in your own photos - the Jeeps you're using to substantiate your National Symbol placement are not Jeeps assigned to the 8th Transportation Group. As Dave tried to point out to you, the 8GP placed their National Symbols differently, as well as using the Yellow Trim on the hoods of their vehicles during the Vietnam War. The 8GP is distinctive in this regard, and I notice that you're marking your miniature with 8GP's markings so far...

OK, you got me... It looks that using kit decals for bumper markings was not such a good idea after all... I should have made my own, just had problem finding some example. For some reason (not obvious even to myself) I just didn't want to make my model an MP vehicle and most photos I had were of MP vehicles. I think the one on the last photo above is not MP, but it is hard to read all letters and numbers.

Pawel we are both right on this one. On the early 8th GP 124th Trans jeeps before we went to the yellow nose the hood star is in the position as you have it. When we went to the distinctive yellow nose we moved the star to the center of the hood as I had stated earlier. So you can keep the star where it is and change the 54th Trans to he 124th Trans and it will be correct. I love you guys. You make me research things and dig thru old files. Thank you. It is bringing back a lot of memories for me that are good.

Thanks a lot, Dave!
I will try to change markings to those on the vehicle on your photo - let's say my model will be this particular jeep, but before extra armor was added to it. It looks it even had national insignias on sides in the same places as my model (unlike MP jeeps, which had stars on sides under windshield).
Cheers,
Pawel
