Other than the dozer blade, what is different between Mengs T90 Dozer and their T90a?

Meng's T-90 dozer kit has the original T-90 cast turret. It also includes a cool LED light system for the "Shtora" laser-spoofer system.

Meng's T-90A has the welded turret standard on that version. It's a pretty big difference from the T-90. Given the very different turrets and various sensor and other equipment updates for the T-90A over its earlier "brother", the ERA sets are different, as are many of the turret detail and fittings bits. The hulls and running gear are essentially the same.

Both kits are pretty nice and pretty full boxes of styrene goodness, PE, etc.

The dozer blade system and the Shtora LED set can of course be used on either kit.

The kits share, I think, only 3 sprues... and the track set.

Cheers! Bob

Thanks Bob. I suspected the difference was in the turret types and not just the blade.

The T-90 w/dozer blade uses the single pin T-72 tracks and sprockets. The T-90A uses the modern double pin tracks. I also believe the T-90A kit includes the engine.

Yeah... The kits DO have different drive sprockets and track sets... ! I have both kits on the shelf, and that aspect I never actually looked at! And yes, I think that you are right about the T-90A kit having at least the top-side of the engine (all that one can see with the rear deck lids open). I never even figured on building that kit feature and so I simply axed it from my mind! Duh!

The track sets and sprockets can be swapped between the kits if a builder wishes - and such swap MAY be "legit" , as there are likely both T-90 and T-90A tanks that have been equipped with either track type. Over time, most of the surviving older T-90 have been upgraded to the newer 2-pin tracks and respective sprockets, but these shop updates are certainly rather sporadic and NOT universal... Given the long-standing funding chaos surrounding equipment maintenance and updating across much of the Russian Army.

This chaos does, however, provide yet another silver-under-cloud opportunity for modelers, as one can utilize these gaps and issues to mix and match some detail features.

Cheers! Bob
