I am reading "lightning Out of Israel" by the Associated Press (1967). On page 84 there is a picture of a dug-in Sherman in what appears to be the Sinai. It is a welded hull version. No suspension can be seen. The upper hull looks to have three plates welded to the upper hull side, similar to a wet storage plate but with two additional plates welded beside the first plate protecting the crew space. The turret has been changed out for an AMX 13 turret (with a 105mm?) There is a derailed train next to the tank. Which version of Sherman is this?

Sounds like an Egyptian M4A4 fitted with the FL-10 turret of the AMX-13.

It's usually called the Sherman AMX. In the early 1950's. the Egyptian Army purchased AMX-13 75mm gun turrets and fitted them to M4A2 and M4A4 Sherman hulls (the M4A4's were also re-engined to use the twin diesel bus engines from the M4A2, as nobody liked the Chrysler Multibank engine). A few were still in service in 1967. The Israelis have preserved a captured example at the museum in Latrun.

That's the one. A more interesting conversion.
