Some pics of the Sherman M4A1 75mm that I'm working on. Any comments welcome, I'm trying to get the weathering right. I got some good advice from the armour forum and touched up things. Any suggestions on what needs doing before I add the rope to tie down the "luggage" and touch up the paintwork that I damaged will be really helpful.

My oh my! She looks terribly beautiful! I love the looks of it. What did you use to paint the tracks?

Thanks Shonen, I painted the tracks black and drybrushed the metal links silver, then painted the rubber pads grey. I then mixed some Mig weathering powder with some white spirit and slopped it on. When dry I got an old paintbrush and brushed them to remove some of the powder to let the paint show in places. I'm aiming for it to look like it has been used in a dry dusty area like Normandy in '44.

I would not change a thing on this Martin--it looks great. The side views of the suspenion and track show a beautiful mud/weathering job--very very authentic looking. I've always loved the cast hull Sherman's and your nose on pic really shows this model off.

Is there a 50cal for the turret on this one?

Congrats on a good looking build.

Great !
I was going to make the same (i mean combination) for operation overlord, but i've changed my mind.
It's really good to see a well done M4A1 75mm here.
Good job ! Brandydoguk :-)

Thanks Steve, the cast hull was textured with stippled on liquid cement but most of it doesn't really show with all the weathering. There is a 50 cal to add but I lost the mounting bracket, I will try to cobble up a replacement.

Thanks M113, I used the 75mm turret as it was spare and I don't like the look of the 76mm turret, it's a funny shaped thing. :-)
One thing I don't like is the fact that the washes that showed all the recesses have been lost under the weathering, I will have to learn self control when slopping on the Mig powder/white spirit mix.

My suggestion would be to glue the tops of the tracks down. If you look, they float at the top. Otherwise, I like the weathering.

Thanks pcmodeler, I'd missed that, it's amazing what you don't notice when you are working on something.

Normandy was known for it's dust, so a light coloured drybrush or pastel just lightly flicked across the top. Otherwise I wouldn't touch it.

Nice looking M4A1 ! Paint job looks fantastic, and the weathering is perfect. One thing I would like to comment on, is the tracks look like they could use a bit of tension in them. They seem loose. In a real-life situation, a track would throw itself in a turn. Esp the US tanks, which always had tension to the tracks.

Other then that it looks SPIFFO !!!

Cheers !

The tracks are the rubber band tracks that came with the kit. They were not very bendy so I put them in hot water to soften them to get them on. I think I might have stretched them.
