I wrapped up construction on this a couple of weeks ago, and have begun the finishing process. I figured I would essentially post daily/session updates as it transforms from a lump of multi-colored plastic and brass to something resembling finished.

Here was the project at the completion of major construction.

Then here is the base painting. This project represents a tank in the fall '44. Color is based on SCC15, which was the US Olive Drab equivalent. Paint is a Tamiya mix of OD lighted with Deck Tan and a little yellow-green.

Next session was detail painting some of the items. All this was done via brush and Vallejo paints.

And to bring everything up to the present, last night I did the markings. The name of the tank will be "Phantom", which is a made up name I found on some unused decals from a previous project. But the unit markings represent a tank from the 9th Royal Tank Regiment, 34th Tank Brigade.

It's a very nice kit. Typical AFV club. I used the ET Models photo-etch set for some additional details, and then added a few items out of the spares box; the ammo box on the turret side, POW cans, and the first aid box on the rear hull plate as details.

The kit comes with a metal barrel, but I used one from RB model because it had the nice brass turned muzzle brake, where as the kit wants you to use the plastic piece. Also shaved off the mounting bosses for the rear scraper, per photos I had found of these tanks.

The cables are from Eureka also, and are significantly larger than the string included in the kit, to the point that they aren't going to seat in the bracket that runs over the hull side doors. So I need to figure out a solution there.

Here's the next installment. Started adding some "crud" using a mixture of static grass, celluclay, pigments, and diluted white glue. It dried a very light color, but I'll be using various enamel colors to vary the color.

Next update. Weathering is coming along.

you've really got that Churchill down to a fine art, I would like to have seen a little more dirt on the upper turret, possibly boot prints from crew standing or walking on it.

just my tuppence worth.

I am definitely planning on adding some mud where it would have kicked up from the missing fenders. That's very common on wartime images. I'll try to upload a few more shots when I get some free time.

Some others from the same timeframe as the previous. I've been working on the figures for the last ~week or so. The upcoming holidays have put a damper on how much time I've been able to dedicate to this project.

The Churchill's been sitting while I work on the figures. After looking at these photos, I want to do a few touch-ups, and then it'll likely be time to flat coat to kill the shine.
