Hi gang,

Been busy with other campaigns, but decided to make a start on this one tonight! I'm going with the classic Tamiya M8 Greyhound scout car, in the jazzy Free French markings. The usual Tamiya build-quality let me get most of the hull done in just a couple hours!

The interior needs paint before the hull can be sealed up for painting the exterior...

[EDIT: The price sticker will tell anyone from the UK exactly how long this has sat in my stash...]

I remember Beatties having ads in Military Modelling way back... Even though I live in Australia I remembered dreaming of a place like that here! From a 1971 issue....

I see by your near 20 pound price you did not take advantage of the 0.99 pence for the 1960's version offered back then...

And speaking of that 'Auspicious' but defunct periodical, are you hoping to keep up with the standard that enabled this M8 Greyhound grace front cover of the 2nd ever issue?

….. big shoes to fill there Tom

How far we have come from that 1960's era kit and 70's build expectations, to the newer 1998 release you are now building and how we finish models now.....

I just hope my painting skills are up to that gold standard!

My brother had one of those motorized M8s, where the two rear axles (and motor) were on a pivoting plate to allow some articulation. When picked up, the middle wheels would hang down most unrealistically! At the time I was still pushing my Monogram M48 through the jungles of the back yard, hunting down the Monogram Wirbelwind with the aid of my Monogram M8 and M35 truck. I'd like to say we never left a man behind, but a few fed the lawnmower...

Sadly the Beatties in Romford closed not long after I got the kit, and was reborn as a Modelzone instead. But they've gone the way of the dodo too, about half a dozen years ago?

And opened the box this afternoon, started the kit at step 20, building the gun.

Here we go. No aftermarket for the build, detail is outstanding.

Step 20, the gun.

Only small disaster, some 0.5mmx0.5mm piece was lost from some kind of a lever, will replace that later. Rest of the build is just fine.
One has to be careful cutting the plastic, I'm building a Cyber Hobby as aside for another campaign, it's a different styrene.
See you all later, when there is more progress.

It's a great kit with a mass of detail. Really like the AFV Club kits, they sometimes have some overkill of tiny tiny parts, troublesome to release from the sprue and easy to break. Just needs time and a good beer, all becomes one.

Ok so jut like the "Boomerang," this i Bumerang is coming around again!!! I originally had started this in a desert camo

But then i re-thought the idea, as the vehicle had never deployed anywhere in such a guise. I did a bit of digging, and found some pics of it in 3-color camo, and decided to go with it.

The AK interactive paint really works great! However, who knew that it would react with silly putty?!? Just like George Costanza on Seinfeld, the putty had issues with "shrinkage".

Even so, I like the way she came out. So a bit of touch up, some decals (dee-kals here in the SE-USA) along with some light weathering, and she'll be fine!

I think you will find it is less a shrinkage issue and more likely the gravity effect. Silly putty wants to flatten, so when you mask with it, it will flow outward and downward, so what was butt up to an edge colour initially flows over where you intend to spray, thus leaving the tan gap between the dark brown and black. It is why I use Blu-Tac - it doesn't move.

Hi all. Bit late to this party but this is my entry. Kit was super cheap, so why not?!? I also wanted and easier introduction to interiors, as I have the miniart SU-122 with interior in my stash which looks a great kit but a little intimidating.

Believe this is a re-box of an ICM kit.

Was thinking of joining the campaign Would a Tamiya Jeepney with the Machine Gun mounted count for the build?

nice choice to start on the world of interiors. I too have the SU-122 (initial version) and agree it looks daunting - think thank will be the first build of 2021 tho

Nice job on this scheme. May I ask where you got your ref pics from?
It's a pity Zvezda does not give comprehensive painting instructions for this camo.

Mine’s the mid production and likewise I think New year build for me. Started the P(204)f. Gone well together so far. Will get the interior done first then post a progress photo.

Here we go.
7.2 litre in-line 6 cylinder Caterpillar C7 turbodiesel engine plus Allison 3500SP, 6-speed automatic with manumatic shifting transmission.
Exquisite level of details closely followed by the annoying number of micro flashes to be cleaned. The whole thing is 4cm long. Parts count: better don't ask.

As you can see there are some parts missing - mainly exhaust and air intake to the turbocharger as well as tubing for intercooler and radiator. If you want (I want) add some more details like extra tubing and wiring, the whole thing will look much "denser"

So finished the interior. It's a pretty basic kit and I suppose I could have added a bit, to the engine particularly, but first attempt at anything with an interior.

I've quickly come to the realisation that most probably do with interior kits, which is how to I now display the model without covering up all that work! I'll probably keep some of the doors open - I have in mind a little diorama to support this for some point in the future, but does anyone have any tips for fixing doors, hatches etc. shut to allow for painting the exterior, so they can be easily opened after?

I'm also probably going to paint it in the anti-partisan scheme option with the kit, which is a tri-colour string pattern. To that end any suggestions for best fit Tamiya paints for the colours? I'm assuming dark yellow (or dark yellow 2) for the dunkelgelb, but what about the rotbraun and olivegrun?

I know there are other brands that offer those straight out of the bottle, but wanted to keep to tamiya as will be attempting freehand camo with the airbrush for the first time and didn't want the extra worry of new paint to thinner mixes, tip drying etc.
