Hi guys well finally got my Pershing painted and most of the equipement is on ..Still have to finish the .50 cal and add the final weathering ...So far I have added two filters one is Humbrols chocolate color and the other was Model masters sand color....I have also added a black wash much heavier than the filters...still needs a bit of pastels but not much as these tanks saw action in early spring 45 where there was less dust than mud. Hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoyed this kit...Going out to buy a new Pershing this week...
all the best
Rick

Rick.
Nice job here -- good preshading and color variation --especially in the nose on and rear deck pics.
Care to share your bedroll/tarp creation techniques? Also what you are using to wrap them/ tie them down? Thanks.
Steve

Hi Rick-
Super job on that Pershing.... excellent finish :-)
The only thing that I could think of to maybe help you out a bit is to "weather" the turret star to more closely match the hull markings. lol..... nitpicky, I know :-)
That is all I could see that I might change... tremendous work!

Thanks guys.. well first most of the bed rolls and other equipement are from the Trakz...with the exception of one roll from a tamiya set and the net was made using cheese cloth..the straps were made from tamiya tape and the buckles are just thin wire bent to look like a buckle...As for the star ..hmm I think the camera has made the difference in the shading ..doesn't show up that way when looking at the real thing...I'll give it another filter just to be sure though.

What a paint job. So much depth. This is very close to what I consider to be an idea single-color paint job. Don't know if it's the most realistic (maybe, maybe not), but it's certainly the most fun to look at and most suggestive of size/weight. Very cool.
One comment, and I'm loathe to make it because it's probably a photographic artifact: the tarp roll on the sponson seems to be just a touch glossy. I think it should be dead flat (although maybe it was impregnated with something that might give a slight sheen). I'm sure a quick hit with some PollyS Flat or Testors Dullcote, or even some tan pastels, would kill the shine in a second.
Again, I really like that model.

Thanks for the kind comments..I really did have fun building this kit ..I'm almost sad I'm finished ...I think it was the lighting that make the tarp look shiny...the last thing I did before the pictures was a coat of PollyS flat. I'll take a look at it later ..it just might need another flat coat...

Wow, awesome work on your M26 Pershing ! I love the weathered effect you have going with the OD paint. I will agree with jrnelson on the turrert star. Maybe some bare metal on the tracks ? Other then that you have an outstanding M26 !!
Cheers !!

Very close to perfect in my opinion, wish my efforts turned out that well. Just that turret star looking cleaner than the paint either side of it.

It really is strange how that star looks so white compared to the rest ..these stars are all painted on and were all weathered together...Think it was more a camera thing cause it doesn't show up so white when looking at the real kit ...As for the tracks they will get ther final dry brushing using polished steel tonight....Still hesitating as to whether or not I should use pastels on the upper part of this kit ...what do you guys think.?.

Bear :-)
In my humble opinion... this beauty is FINISHED.... hehehe
I know the temptation as well, I am always fiddling and futzing with my kits... are they ever done or do we just quit working on em :-) That is a super looking Persing, and I feel it is weathered just the right amount. Sometimes it is difficult to strike a balance, and you have done just that. Leave her alone....... lol
Great job-
Jeff

Rick
In my humble opinion you are done sir.
All of us appreciate the kind comments and suggestions of our fellow modelers in the RRB. Incorporation of these suggestions often leads to a "better" final product. However in this instance, this Pershing is already "there". The weathering is uniformly applied, the depth is also present with your preshading and highlights.
If you think its done, its done
Congrats on a great build.

Well I fixed the white star , drybrushed the tracks with polished steel...glued my .50 (collector's brass)together and man is that thing heavy for the mount!! I'll finish painting that and glue it in place and I guess I'll move on to the next model...Can you imagine the shock and the horror of the judges to see a kit that has no pigments or pastels on it? :-) Well almost none ..I did use pigments on the undercarriage....Now what to do next ...anyone got a three sided coin I could flip?

Hi Bear,
I am ready to paint part of my M26, but there is no way on God's green earth that I can get mine to come out looking that great !!! I usually build aircraft and am building the Pershing for the DSB pig pile build. Any pointers and/or helpful hints, sir??

Hi Penny ..thanks for the kind words ..I first started by adding spots of off white where my stars were going to be...I then added the masks over the the white paint and then ..I just used the preshading method...Started black all over ..then mixed up an OD color from Tamiya and Gunze ODs I then recovered almost the whole vehicle with this color...going right to the sides of the panels ..very little black was showing through ...Then I added some tamiya dark yellow to the mix..(any sand color will do) this lightened the color quite a bit ...I then painted this over my base coat going panel by panel...I do this very slowly my airbrush has hardly any paint coming out at all ....I vary the amount of paint all over so in some places you see the first coat show thru others you don't ...I then lighten my OD again ..and go back over each panel even lighter..I then took off the masks for the stars and add the Archer dry transfers.A flat coat was added to protect the transfers...The bottom of the tank got a misting of Tamiya buff and deck tan ...Of course I did a quick mist over the top too...I used paint pigments with a bit of lighter fluid mixed in to make the mud stuck to the hull ...This was all washed and misted over to match the rest of the weathering... I used 2 filters One was Humbrols chocolate color..thinned with 95% lighter fluid (keeps all the colors flat) and then I used a sand color from Model master same % ..I then used a black wash in the deep cracks and grills ....Well thats about all there was to it ...If you have any other questions please ask ..It would be my pleasure to help out ...
