Hi all,
I can't find on the Internet a walkaround of this tank with this denomination. Am I right if I call this a T-72BM ?

The kit does not have the mine plow mounts under the bow and features a wind sensor ala T-90. If it's a -BM, these are mistakes as all the pics I have of the -BM show plow mounts and a turret without any wind sensor.

Could anyone make this clearer to me?

I have built the same kit a year ago in the Trumpeter mk5 campaign (it was good fun) and used reference photos from the internet.

Actually the designation of any T-72 variant is at least close to sorcery, witchcraft or woodoo knowledge. Specially when we talk about the Hungarian Army tanks which are perfect cocktail of all variants and parts taken from any T-72 hanging around :-)

I still have my reference photos downloaded from Scalemodels.ru but unfortunately I cannot find them anymore on the internet. As there are some 35 megabytes in total, I could only send them in a "mammutmail" version for which I need your email address. These pictures helped me a lot and even gave me an idea.



In my opinion the model (with a/m photo etch added and some personal skills) nicely represent the T-72B mod 1990 version, however I am not an expert of the T-72 family.

I read Cookie's review and started looking for T-72BA instead. However it's hard to find information about this version.
In a russian book it is said the BA was largely built (more than 700) in different batches so they can show external differences from a tank to another depending if the tank was an upgraded B or a factory new tank.

Thanks for the links. One of the Otvaga walkarounds shows one of the proposed decorations (the parade one).

None of them though shows a tank without the mine plow mounting points. I guess I'll have to add the missing ones.

I must admit that the idea came to mind. I have seen quite interesting and inspiring pictures of those tanks in combat.

An interesting note. I noticed how many of the photos shows the track to be a bright steel color almost an aluminium color. Sort of like using bare Friule track with no paint.

As mentioned, the kit is really an early batch T-72BA. Trumpeter messed up and missed the engineering mounts, but apart from that it has the right details. The T-72B model 1990 was essentially a T-72B model 1989, but with the wind sensor mast - this is why it's easy to confuse with an early BA.
