This is my latest build, the Tamiya Challenger I mk III with Eduard PE. In the beginning, this was the third or fourth model I built. I decided to return to it and see how I've progressed over the years. There was quite a difference between the two.
I painted it for the desert, and weathered it accordingly. This is the first time I've used my airbrush for a dusted look and must say, I am quite pleased. The kit was painted in Tamiya acrylics, given an oil wash, and drybrushed with Creative Workshops paints. Again I used party stars for the periscopes, and painted the lens in the dog house orange, as per references.
As always, questions, comments, or criticisms are welcomed.

Hi Jeff,
Overall your C1 looks to be a nice clean build, I wanted to point out a few things that jumped out at me. I hate to tell you this but your treads are on backwards. I checked my C1and then my refs just to be sure. I think the paint job looks good but you might want to do a pin wash to bring out some of the details a little more, alot of the little stuff kind of blends in with the overall color (I hope that makes sence) You also might want to put some soot stains around the exhaust vents or at least blacken the vents themselves. I'm pretty sure the water cans should be black, then dust 'em up real good. I like the way you dusted the side skirts I think it looks good. You might want to back off the turret a little in the future. If you look at the markings on the side skirts the dust is heaviest at the bottom and lighter on the top. I would think the turret would have an even lighter coat of dust since it sits higher. If you haven't seen it before go to the Modern gallery on Missing Lynx and check out Ron Puttee's Challenger 1 mk.3. It is one of my favorite modern models I've seen and a great reference. OK I'm sure you're tired of reading this stuff now so I'll shut-up.
Mike

Hello Jeff pretty nice looking tank there, I guess it all depends on what you are looking for, now like Mike said the turret should be less then the sides, but bringing out the detail.
Now was you looking for it to pose for photos all the time, or view in real life. With me the others would say I need to bring out the detail more, but that is for the photos, but I build my models to look at on my shelfs, and if you bring out the detail to look good on photos, then it will look strange on the shelf.
Now if your going for the photos, then you might need some more of Mikes suggestions. Hope this helps.

I like these British AFV's. They have a lot of busy things all over them(nuts and bolts etc).Your example is a very good one. The paint and weathering is great. You have already been told about any little things that need to be corrected in the future so I will not repeat them except to say WELL DONE.

By George your right! I guess I must have had a senior moment (even though I'm only a Jr in college...but I'll be a Sr next yr ) I thought the same thing about having weathered the turret a little too much, of course that was after the fact. Coloring the water cans is easy enough, I'll probably do that tonight.
Thanks for the comments!!!

Thanks muzz!
Party stars are those little foil stars on a wire that are used to decorate for birthday parties and other special occasions. You can get them at most stores that sell party favors. They look similar to this (sorry, this is the best pic I could find, not exactly what I use, but it'll give you an idea)

Superb Jeff!
It certainly adds to the look of the model. Might even try it myself.
Thanks for the tip!
