I was thinking (out loud) about a group build to take place this fall called "Headless Horsemen". Named and timed to coincide with our Halloween holiday that takes place at the end of October, this group build would consist of turretless tracked vehicles.

Appropriate vehicles would be StuGs, non-turreted APCs, M88 recovery vehicles, ammo carriers, bulldozers, M1 Panther, etc.

A rotating cupola like that on an M113 would not count as a "turret" and thus be suitable. The M901 ITV or M981 FIST-V with rotating hammerhead would be counted as a "turret" and not be suitable. (just a couple of examples here).

Any suggestions or inputs?

I like it...would get nicely away from the MBTs for a change....lots of nice attractive subjects as well... Couple of ideas which spring to my (very prejudiced) mind would be the (turretless) M5 scout vehicle in British service and if it were permitted the Crusader Gun Tractor. The one I would love to build is that weird hybrid of an M60 with the excavator arm and bucket which is in Spanish service.... Like the idea...different!...Jim

As a postscript, when are we going to have a braille-scale campaign/group build?

This would be a good excuse to build the M39 I've been itching for.

great idea,

im interested, ive got a RAM kangaroo perfect for this, it fits the bill perfectly, being a tank with its turret removed to make it an APC.

cheers

As I understand it, you can enter a braille-scale kit in any of the campaigns. Myself, if this becomes an "official" campaign, I might do the Revell/Germany Biber, the bridge-laying Leopard 1.

What about a regular tank, say a TIger, but destroyed with the turret blown off and completely separated from the hull? Call it a decapitation!!

Good one Randy, I've got that kit and it looks nice. Yes Jim, feel free to enter Braille scale kits into group builds. I've done several 1/72-1/76 scale kits for the UK Commonwealth build, the Sci-fi Mission to Mars build, D-Day Overlord build, and the Incoming artillery build. My kit of choice for the Move It! softskin build is an MW 1/72 scale HMMWV and if the M113 FOV build ever gets going, I have the Esci/AMT/Ertl M113 and M901 ITV on deck.

Doubtful we would get a big rash of participants in a Braille scale build here, but I could use some help selling the folks on the idea that Braille scale kits are not simple, detailless snap-together toys.

One thing I meant to mention in the previous post, is that the photography angle here means that small-scale stuff is stands up against 35-scale better than it does on a display table. I've seen some braille-scale on Missing Lynx that were it not for a scale reference, you'd think was 1/35. Someone did the Revell/Germany T-34/85, and put a roll of 35mm film beside it-- without that, it could have just as easily been the Dragon kit, so well-detailed it was.
