To follow on from the D-Day campaign I have submitted a 'request' to the commitee for another idea from the fertile brains of A-UK.
8th May 2005 is the 60th anniversary of the official end of hostilities in Europe - VE Day.
The campign idea is to portray this by putting our usual subjects into a non-warlike setting. Examples so far are:
Ships/'Planes' Trucks used to bring the men home
The aircraft used to drop food to previously occupied Europe
Men returning home with souveniers
First meeting between husband & wife (not too graphic please)
Reunion between father & children
Men returning to damaged homes
Wounded men disembarking from ships or 'planes
Civilians waving flags
Parties
GIs & Russians sharing the vodka
Must be many more ideas out there.
Start date - whenever you finish other campaign entries
Closing - 8th May 2005
Any takers?

Hi Dave
That sounds like a great idea to depict the "other side" of the war. My uncle was among the first British prisoners of war (he was sunk on the (Rawal Pindi)... after years as a POW, he flew home in a Lanc - his first view of "Blighty" was from the bomb-aimer position!
I don't know how you'd model a moment like that...
All the best

Hi Rowan,
The immediate thoughts that spring to mind would be:
1) Model the aircraft standing on the ground with a figure in the appropriate uniform kissing the ground, or being welcomed
2) Scratchbuild a bomb-aimers canopy, view from the inside looking down at a colour photo of the UK, even in a small scale this could be effective
Some model that would be!

nice idea dave,
i also like rowans idea. my grandad fought in the far east and didnt get home until 1947 as his unit was assigned to internal security duties in india.
i might do a dio of the meeting between british and soviet troops in wismar 1945.
cheers

Thanks Joe,
We need a few more takers before it'll be accepted as a campaign though. If there aren't enough here then we'll keep it to ourselves as a group-build OK?

Why not, I've signed up for every other campaign with a figure in the past few months.
I should be able to come up with something (not too graphic) int he next year.

Gentlemen, thank you for you responses, but it takes more than six to make a campaign. As there are a number of others going on at the moment I have PMd Jim asking that this submission be placed 'in suspension' for possible re-activation next year when some of the other current campaigns have completed.
