Ola

You people must get tired of me with yet another update. What Am I going to show today?? Well Today I give a little sneak of what the dio will be in a short while. I started on the groundworks. Made the basic leveling out of StyrofoamAnd started covering the hole itself with a mix of Sand, Birchseeds, static grass and Wallspackle. I added a tree to break the scene a bit and in the meantime give it a little height. behind the tree is a mount of ground that comes from the hole. Two figures are added And some of the loose stuff that has been excavated is laying around too. Still a lot of small stuff needs to be made but everything has its own time. I still need to add the leaves on the ground that is not covered yet. Will start on that later on in the week. Ok up to the pics: (some of the rust colors came out a bit too red but that is more due to the lighting I have in my room in real life they don`t look that red)

More pics can be found Here

And as always I`d like to hear your thoughts about it.

Nice looking layout. I like the flow around the non square base - good creativiity.

What are your plans for the excavated dirt?

This is coming along really well.

The planned layout looks and sounds good. Take care that a big hole like that has to show some of the excavated earth from in there, and this is not just a bit its much !!!! The whole setting tells the story immidiately and i believe that itwill turn out very good. So keep these updates coming !!!!

I don't think I can make judgements on someone better than me.

But I am glad that our work area looks about the same.

Ola Rob,
First of all; I want to tell that I will never get tired of updates like this from you or others because those are one of the best parts of Armorama. I feel like reading a How to - diorama article in a modelling magazine. I wish we have more posts like this and we can share our diorama techniques more often.
About the dio; I noticed the hexagonal diobase and that means first step of the big project started. rusty effect on the PAK ,ammo cases and mp 40 is very good, the question on my mind is the rubber wheel ;can it survive that long or it should be gone totally? just a question and i dont know the answer.
figures, tree trunk and accessories are looking good. I saw a photo yesterday in an archeology book . I noticed that they had a bucket next to them to collect little stuff in it and the brush was next to the bucket. maybe you can think taking the bucket in the hole next to the figures. groundwork looks great too.
I am waiting for more updates and good luck Oranje vs Germany.

Now up to some answers.

What are your plans for the excavated dirt?

Well behind the tree is a mount of dirt that comes from the Hole and it suggests that it runs outside the base for a bit more. Further the mount will contain a few treeroots, Leaves and sandy soil.

I have taken that into account and will do something about it. Als some leaves that are blown into the hole by the wind.

Well that was my first thought too but after seeing some pictures of stuff that have been excavated, Or pulled out of water and even after a Crash (planes in this case) it is quite surprising to see that the wheels are mostly intact. Usually they look like if you blow them up you can use them immediately. I will look up some pics later.

Yeah the bucket will get a more prominent role inside this dio and I would love to make a little brush along with it only I have not got the faintest clue about how to make a convincing brush in 1:35. Again if anybody has a clue please tell me.

That is nonsense. In my opinion everybody can do this. You only have to take your time to try it. This means a lot of experimenting before you start on the real McCoy. I`m sure you can do this. I`m an average modeler myself so why couldn`t you tackle something like this. If you need advice of any sort give me a shout and I`ll answer where I can.

Yeah I don`t do Posh workbenches. Usually after a project I clean the whole thing and then Reorganize it again but when the next project comes up the bench it`s a mess in no time.

To all the rest Thanks for the kind replies and comments. I really appreciate them. More pics will follow as soon as I have something to take new pictures of.... Clever Aye

Surely somebody has this figure laying around and would be willing to part with his paintbrush.
