Just about ready to paint this beast. though I'd post these before going off to Scout Camp on Saturday. Should be able to finish it by 30 Aug. show's why I needed an extension. Started as a hobby Fan 6x6 recovery vehicle. Scratchbuilt items show what needs to be done to make a Husky. Wheels are a Maple Leaf Models Product.

WOW! what workmanship! This is a fantastic looking conversion. While I admit that I know not much about modern armor I can tell great work when I see it.
Is this a modern Canadian Army vehicle?
thanks for sharing

Hi Cliff,
Yes it is a modern Canadian Vehicle still in service,However, the trim vane and propellors have since been removed and the wheels and tires upgraded to the wider Michelin X as on the Bison, Coyote and ASLAV..

Hi Paul,
Magnifique !! Looks really, really good ! I don't have the Hobby-Fan kit yet, but i though that it was correct as it is. Now,when i look at your work, it shows that there is some scratch to do to make it looks like a Husky recovery...
Can't wait to see it painted !!!

Great work Paul! The crane looks like you were considering making it articulate?
Very tight build...I'm surprised to see how much extra work was required to convert the HF kit...you did all the hard stuff yourself - should have just used an Italeri LAV!
Don't suppose you made any resin masters of the crane?

Hi Paul,
That Husky looks really good.
It looks like you scratched the whole "business" part of the Husky, can you explain why?
I have the kit from Hobby Fan but it looks like it's a different vehicle.
Gr,
Marcel
The Hobby Fan kit uses a bunch of components from other LAV type vehicles and copies them. The entire crane mechanism is incorrect from a functionality and dimensional point of view and the superstructure is the wrong dimensions. Note the 45 degree angle fore and aft, whereas the Hobby fan sides are verticle. The antenae are in the wrong location, the hydraulic stabilizers are mounted the wrong way. I had to move the crew commanders hatch forward about 7mm. etc. I also wanted to experiment with Detail Master fittings for the hydraulic lines. I figured if I was going to that expense, the boom might as well be correct. It moves in all directions as per the protoype. Multiple thicknesses of styrene. at this stage in my modelling career, I have a whole box of it so I just take what works.

Paul,
I'm so glad I found the Hobby Fan kit on eBay for a nice price since it looks like it really needs a lot of work.
Did you ever consider of making copies of the parts you scratched? You could use some of them to create a Bison Recovery vehicle too. And I think there will be interest from others too
Gr,
Marcel
I can knowck the basic pieces together for a subseuqnt kit real quick. However a Trackjam kit would end up as a conversion for an Italeri/Revell LAV not a complete kit.
The crane on a Bison is completely different. There is actually a new Bison MRT coming out which is different again. No shortage of Canadian Armour subjects.

A kit is not planned for the immediate future.
