Ok I want to build a reasonably accurate Canadian Sherman from the summer of 44. What I was wondering is what kit and conversion/detail parts would people recommend to assemble a Canadian Sherman. I have the book "History of the Canadian Armoured Corp." and I like the idea of modeling the Sherman on the jacket which is moving through a town. It appears to be an early M4.
Sherman kits I have on the shelf are Tamiyas Early, 105, Jumbo and M4A3 kits. I also have the Dragon Firefly (new one) and the old M4A2 with rockets. I have no problem with picking up another kit to use as the basis for this project.
My main reason for asking for help is simply the shear volume of options and issues with the Sherman kits along with the requirement I model a Canadian ride.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Well you already have two kits that will do fine for a Canadian Sherman on your shelf...The New Firefly is an out of the box build and voila you have a Canadian Tank and the kit with the rockets is not an M4A2 but an M4A4 which we had lots of too but without the rockets..Our Shermans were fitted out like all British Shermans . A lot of pictures show the vehicles covered in extra tracks all over, so this makes for some interesting vehicles. Try either Ultracast or here for decals for your Tank.

Thanks Rick I actually have several sets of decals from Quartermasters. I have been looking at the formations stuff too as well as blast. I could probably spend about 50 years and build nothing but Shermans from the looks of it

I know what you mean ..my next 3 projects are all Shermans ...then I might break up the monotony with an M10... :-) ..I Can't wait to see the new dragon Shermans that are supposed to show up some time this year...Looks like a good year for us Sherman builders! Who would have believed I used to build 90% German stuff...lol (still got lots on the shelves down stairs..) I guess I'll have to build them some day..

I have two Shermans myself to build. One will be a US one (old Italeri kit) and the other the old DML sherman as a Canadian tank. The US one will be first as it is for the Battle of the Bulge Campaign.

Just to be clear. The vehicle on the cover of the RCAC history actually doesn't belong to the RCAC. It is an artillery FOO vehicle. I still think it would make an even more interesting model because of it, but I just didn't want you to come looking for which armour regiment it represents once you get down to searching out markings after the paint is dry. :-)

There was an interesting article in FSM some time ago about building a Canadian Sherman. It was in the December 2003 issue. It isn't available online...

Quick question, as I am new to this site. What's this campaign business? Does it mean making a model specific to whatever the campaign is? And can you post a link for this particular campaign? Thanks.
Sorry for the question...

At the upper left of your screen you will see a main menu. Click campaigns and read info. This will explain.
