That's amazing, John. It looks just like it's been hit in the nose by masking tape AA fire!

Just kidding. Sometimes it's nice to build something different than your usual fare. Looks like it's coming along nicely (though I am certainly no expert on wingy-thingies!).

What did you go and do John? A wingy thing of all things!

Looking good. Is that the only color that is supposed to be on her?

call a doctor. John is sick LOL :-)

seriously it looks good John. I like the WW1 planes.

The only thing I don't like is the fact that you have hinted this may not be the last wingy thing :-)

good one mate

Howdy John,

Good on ya! She's looking great. I 'cut my teeth' on large scale WW I bi planes when I was a kid (the balsa kind).

She's looking good so far, and I must say, she's sporting the perfect camo paint job for those gray, overcast European skies!........noone will ever see her comin!

Tread.

Although......I suggest you get rid of all that blockage in front of the radial engine intake......she's gotta cool off ya know!

These things get COVERED in castor oil after even no more than 30 min. of flying, the wheels also get mud on them, along with the tail skid and lower part of the rudder.

Thats not a radial engine, its a rotary engine, radial engines spin the prop like an inline, but are air-cooled, and a rotary spins the engine, AND the prop, and is aircooled, the advantage is better cooling, though it adds LOADS of torque!

Nice Neuiport (sp??) You got there Pvt.. What markings are you gonna use on it, British? French?

When I rig a biplane, I use CA accelerator and black stretched sprue (like sprue from tamiya indly links). I build the plane, and intentionally cut the lengths too long, I then glue one side to wherever one side attaches with CA. I then spray accelator and let it sit for a minute, then I take the other half and pull it tight where the other half goes, holding onto the extra piece and glue it down using CA and accelerator again. I then trim to fit.

Thanks for the clarification David, I stand corrected.

Looks good John., but I didn't tell you to run out and buy every other WWI aircraft made.
Perhaps after the end of the campaigns I'm in, I just might do wing and string also.

I love these WWI aircraft models but never had the guts to attempt a detailed example, what with the rigging and all.
Thanks for the beautiful photos of your work. As far as a little criticism goes, I say that your top wing seems to be distorted.
A little heat and pressure could solve that.

LOL...John.... I picked up a Nieuport 17 Friday on the way to work, started it Friday afternoon, and worked on it today. How was the fit on yours, mines the Hobbycraft one, and I got a warped port fuselage half. Going to have to do a bit of work to take care of that. will post a few photos. DAMN, it's been a long time since I did a bi-plane.

I'm having 1:72 Sopwith Camel flashbacks. I think WWI planes are neat, so early on, I picked up a rather simple kit. Way different than armor. I learned a few techniques I may have never touched upon doing AFV's. Enjoy your build.

I'm putting 1 shot up right now, I'll get some better shots later. I started the massive decals and have learned I need large decal lessons..I ripped 4 for 4. Touch up needed there. Lessons would be helpful..or hints and tips..or I may have 4 bi-planes for sale...LOL. I still have a ways to go..hope the rest goes a bit smoother
