When I saw a built Braille-scale Chally 2 at a recent IPMS-P-BAC meet, I just had to have one. I was in a modeling rut for the past few months and this cute kit should be a nice muse to get things started again. Off to the store I went and 6 dollars later the kit was mine.
Fit was generally good. One trouble spot was the joint betweent the upper and lower turret halves because the mantlet was a tight fit. The venetian blinds are best left off until later to make them easier to paint. Another problem area was the fit of the upper and lower hulls. I ensured that the joint at the rear was a tight fit because the front joint will be hidden by some add-on armor anyway.
Wanze, a fellow IPMS-P-BAC member and owner of the Chally that inspired me, pointed out that the skirts on the kit sat too low. I remedied this by making the locating holes bigger so the skirts could be hiked up by a millimeter or two. The front fenders' seam lines have to be filled. I didn't glue the tracks together since the top run will be hidden anyway.
DML neglected to mention that the driver can't see without his prisms and headlights. The parts are there but they aren't on the instructions.
The whole shebang was painted with a mix of acrylic Tamiya White and Dark Yellow. A burnt umber oil wash was applied after.
I have no idea where to place the antennas. I also need help with the colors of other parts like the fire extinguishers and sights.
On to the pics! Comments definitely welcome

You made me want to go buy a 1/72 scale Chally 2 and a 1/35 sacle Chally 2 just to see how well they are put together. It would be awsome to see the two scales side by side.
The paint job is wonderful. Your wash wasn't over done it just brought out enough detail to make it stand out. I am really impressed how DML captured the detail in such a small scale. I have been wanting to do a 1/72 scale model it's been a toss up between the humvee , abrams , chally 2 I think since yours turned out increditable I'l do the chally 2 also.
I hope mine comes out as good as your.
Why did you use the paints from tamiya and not the MM colors for british tanks. what mixer was it 1 to 1 mix or some other ratio.
Because I think the MM paints are to yellow and yours looks good just mixing the two tamiya colors.
Happy Modeling

Thanks Tom! Sorry but I don't really remember the exact mix. I just put more drops of white into the yellow until it looked right. The box top pic really helped a lot

John,
Good to see you still modelling. Your chally 2 looks real cool and as Tom said the paint job is Awesome. I have seen quite a few 1/72 Chally 2's around and they all look real cool

I'm still modeling Andy but productivity's down. I'm trying out 1/72 scale tanks just to prime the pump. These Braille kits are cool, they don't take up a lot of space, they don't use a lot of paint, and they can be finished in one weekend. (++)

Jeep aka Lord Pollinator
A lot of detail packed into a small package with this one. As others have said, the paint/weathering job really makes this one stand out. The wash really brought out the detail and is not over done. From looking at the model, the viewer would never know you had some challenges to overcome during construction --- it looks really well done here. The vehicle markings are also cleanly applied. An overall fine effort.

Lord Stooperd Muncher,
This is among one of the very nice looking 72nd model I seen. It's very very nice. It's nice to see that with the marriage and soon to be delivered kid, your modeling skill stays.
Very nice work.

Yo Jeepster! Nice build you got there. I just want to remind you again on the CIP panels. They still stand out in the field.
I'm getting this kit too. Off to the LHS

Thanks guys! I gave the CIPs a wash a few nights ago but they still stand out. Will see what I can do. The MG is also on and I've done some more detail painting around the periscopes and headlights. Will try to take pics in decent light conditions this weekend too.
As for October 12, I'm looking around for some razor wire and extra alligators to populate the moat I'm building around my hobby corner. This kid's gonna be my karma
