Hey folks,

Just got this beast in the mail....had been saving for a loooong time to get one.

Looking at all the parts, screws, eletronics and instruction sheet it looks like this one is going to take quite some time. Has anyone here built one who have any tips on building it and finishing it? I am specially concerned with how to get this huge thing painted.

i made a tiger RC one of those its pretty cool. It took me about a month to build. I did have it working for quite some time too. till my bro drove it off a table and it smashed into thousands of peices.

Congrats on a great tank!!
The sound will blow you away when you fire it up. It sounds much better than my tiger.

Before you start, get yourself a muffin pan and empty each bag into a space and tape the bag headers to the pan. It's much easier than hunting for each part in the bag or dumping them all out.

Take your time when laying all the wires out. There is not a whole lot of room to run them (esp under the speaker).

Be careful of the lights.. the bulbs are tiny and not really connected all that great to the wires. The tail lights of mine are gone.

I used Model master Acryl and Tamiya paint on mine with oil washes.
I have some pics of min ein theRC Tank Folder

wow!!! looks like i might change my mind from the Sherman to the Pershing.

There is a local club here that has battles once to twice a month with the RC tanks. I might be wanting to get into that too, complete fights in a 1/16 french village

I am in the process of building the lower hull right now.

I am deviating from the instructions a bit so that I have as many bits as can be painted the same color on the lower hull as possible. The only problem with this approach is that you have to pay very close attention as not to forget a washer or screw here and there.

Pictures to follow soon!

Hi,
I got my full option Pershing last week also!
From looking at the instructions, I thought it was going to take ages to build, but 1 solid weekend and the beast is now sitting complete!

Now its time for paint and super details....the bit I like

I am converting it to an M26A1 in the Korean war.
The Tamiya kit is actually based on a late Pershing as it has the square shape ventilator between the drivers hatches.
I have changed the muzzle break, added the bore evacuator to the barrel, modified and changed the position of the main gun travel lock on to the top of the engine deck.
Opened up and made workable the pistol port / empty shell ejection port, added a fold down rear stowage deck on the back of the turret, hinged and held by chain, hinged all the engine deck grills, added the protection bars over the periscopes (not all as some were welded shut for better balistic protection on later models) and added turnbuckles to the fenders.

Horror of horrors, have just sprayed the turret with the first coat of Tamiya AS6 ( I am doing a camo light and dark OD paint scheme as I have seen M46's in this colour and I like it, weather it is correct or not for Korea!) and the paint has reacted with the Humbrol primer

Anyone any ideas why?.....I have all my chassis metal bits primed in this also and want to find out what I can do about this before I spray them to find it react again

ONE WEEK!!!!!!!! I wish I could build that fast.
Here are a couple of pics:

It shows what I have installed on the lower hull so far. Next step before I continue any building on the lower hull will be to paint what you see here. I am using Model Master Flat OD out of a spray can.

Construction is very smooth, this is the only part that required some filling so far. It is a metal part that glues to the plastic hull and the gaps here were quite big.

One weekEND!!...Ahem :-)
Started the turret first, late last Friday night, was complete within a few hours, so got to the top hull and chassis over the weekend....it all went together much quicker than I expected it to
Have a couple of pics of the mods to the turret now in its initial coat of paint

That looks might fine Carl! I like the base you scratched for the receiver antenna.

I haven't been able to go to the hobbyshop yet to pick up some OD paint so I proceeded with some more assembly.

I built the turret next. VERY smooth building, the fit of the turret halves is better than many 1/35 scale kits. I have installed the elevation and recoil units and the gun flash unit. I tested them and they work beautifully.
There's no way you're going to mistake any of the noises from the speaker box with the noises the real Pershing makes, but it is better than nothing.

The picture shows the turret sitting on the lower hull. The lower hull still needs alot of work. Once I get to shoot some paint on the lower hull the build process should speed up considerably.

In the background you can see the radio controller, or transmitter for the R/C folk. It is a Futaba Attack 4WD.
