Welcome to Armorama. Best way to get to know what's going on is to jump in. Couple of great "Campaigns" going that would interest an "Armor" guy. Look into "Tank Terror" and/or "Ardennes Campaign". I'm sure you'll find not only great info, help, and support but that this is without a doubt the friendliest and most enjoyable modeling site around. Glad to have on board.

Then, you got to arrive until here in the CCC. This also is the ideal point to recruit volunteers for the campaigns. Just place a post with that. The guys will give you the whole support that you to need.

I agree with what is said above: just join one! It's great fun to participate in group build which have a subject. I just joined Ardennes Offensive, my first campaign, and I'm sure it will not be my last one
