Hi All,
We finally made it into the active campaign list so it is time to build.
It would be good for all to sign in with what their project is going to be.
Other than that lets just have a lot of fun and see lots of progress pics.
Our campaign as of yet does not appear in the main topic list but once it does we will start a thread and continue our campaign there.
Good modeling,
Wayne

Good,
For a few days I thought that there wasn't going to be any Double Take! That would've been terrible.
Well anyways...
My Project: Ta 183 Painted in a South African jungle scheme with a Kettenkraftrad. I already finished almost all of the Kettenkraftrad, and I'm working on the Ta 183

Woo hoo. I'm glad it finally got approved.
I will be doing a p-47 in ASW scheme. I admit, my skills will limit me from much more than a special paint scheme, but even that will be a blast for me!
Hope all is well.

Yahoo -
I'm in! That Zero is bugging me in its box and it won't take long to build - then on to the RAF desert scheme and the decals for a machine captured by the Germans.

I am amazed to say this, but I actually already have some forward progess. It doesn't really show the what if idea, but I wanted to share anyway.
It is Tamiya's 1/72 p-47. I'm really curious what people think of the seatbelts. It was the first time I tried making my own. The buckles are unfortunately huge in 1/72 scale. In person they give a nice impression of seatbelts, but in the pictures they look huge. Anyway what do you think. Made with foil and the smallest solder wire I could find.
Hope all is well.

For being in 1/72nd scale, I think yor belts look pretty good. You are right. In the pics they look a little overscale but it all looks pretty good to me. Your detail painting looks good for that small scale also
Have you ever tried using a Future wash? I use that all the time now on my cockpits and interior. It gives the whole inside a nice 'dirty' look plus also sets into the cracks and crevices.
I am sure you have seen them before but if you go to my web site or my gallery and look at the pics of my dauntless cockpit you will see how the wash looks.
On top of the drybrushing you have done, the wash would look really good.
The only thing is that being Future it would leave things a little shiny so you would need to spray after it all cures with a little flat laquer spray. With 1/72nd scale and those parts being so small spray very very VERY light coats just enough to take the shine off. If you spray too heavy on that scale you could get laquer build up and could mess up some of what you have accomplished.
I have got a start on my ME-262. Base coats on most of the interior parts and getting some of the PE and cockpit pieces started. Nothing yet worth posting pics but at least a start. This weekend I am hoping to be able to get a good amount of time to work, oops I mean play :-)
Good modeling,
Wayne

Initial thoughts are a Desert cammo colored Yak-38...but I will have to see if another inspiration strikes me first!

I thought about the Switchblade aircraft that I posted in a previous topic but I am now unsure. A few new ideas have popped up, including a Marine two-tone green and grey scheme for an AH-6J Little Bird, but I just don't know. A trip to the LHS will surely change that though.

Great! My project for this campaign is pretty unique and interesting to say the least (I hope)
I will be doing a Stampe SV4 Bi-plane in German Markings.
A little history of the Stampe:
The SV4 first flew on 17th May 1933, with Jean Stampe at the controls. The company manufactured six SV4 trainers for use in its flying school. Production ceased in 1935 after the death of his son Leon Stampe, but two more SV4s were manufactured in 1937 having been redesigned by Demidoff with two extra ailerons, and with a changed tail section.
Two more SV4s, OO-ATC and OO-ATD, were built in 1939 to enter a competition to find a new trainer for the Belgian Air Force. This time Demidoff once more redesigned the tailplane and swept both wings back. OO-ATD won the competition and was sold to Baron Thierry d'Huart.
On 4th July 1941 this aircraft was flown to England from the grounds of Chateau Ter-Block when occupied by German Forces, by two Belgian Air Force pilots, Michael Donnet and Leon Divoy. An account of this adventure can be found in Donnet's book "Flight to Freedom", published by Ian Allen. (see "Stampe Books" on the left side scroll bar)
In1939 the Belgian Government ordered 300 SV4s, and production was set up in Antwerp and at the Farman company in France under licence. The Antwerp factory had completed production of the first batch of 30, just three days after the Germans invaded Belgium on 10th May 1940. France had also ordered 600 machines, 10 of which were also completed at the Antwerp factory, with the Renault 4PEI engine. The only SV4 which survived World War 2 was OO-ATD.
Mine will be representing a captured SV4. While it is possible that this actually may have happened, there is no documented pics or info of one with German markings.
The SV4 is the same bi-plane that Dr.'s Indiana and Henry Jones used to escape the Nazi Zeppelin in the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. So I must admit, although a "fantasy" situation, the idea is not my own.
The kit will be a challenge to modify. The fuselage is identical to what you see on screen. However, there will be a bit of scratchbuilding involved. (wheelhubs, metal wingstrurs and the most challenging, the rear seat machine gun.) The kit I have is in 1/50th scale.
Here is a pic of the kit box.
And the pic scanned from the Lucasfilm archives. This is how my version will look.

Hi all,
I am going to end up with my ME-262 in a ficticious Afrika Korp fighter squadron. I have come across a fighter group marking I would LOVE to put on the 262.
It is of the 'Totenhand' or 'Hand of Death' that was used in early WWII Germany. Pic is below..
Question for anyone who has made their own decals:
I have a pretty good Epson ink jet printer. How good and sturdy are the decals you can make on your own?
How do you apply them? Are they water-slide like the decals in our kits or Any info I can get on this would be appreciated for I am seriously thinking about trying it out.
Thanks everyone and good modeling,
Wayne

Well I don't have any pics yet for I want to do just a little bit more building before I do. But I have the cockpit PE'd and assembled. Looking good so far.
I am going to do a little more assembly. Then I'll post a few progress shots.
Since..at this current time...we don't have a way to filter our threads as some of the other campaigns do, when starting a thread or notice or whatever for our campaign, either start it with the obvious Double Take or use DT- at the beginning of your topic line. That way anyone in the campaign will be able to know where the thread belongs
I also wanted to ask those who offered to help with the ribbon/medal just a couple quick questions.
What format does the ribbon need to be in? The ones I have looked at so far are all GIFs. I suppose I should stick with that?
I have been working on a design but would really like to see other ideas and designs if any of you have them or have been working on one. I see some of them look like ribbons, some look like actual medals, and I have seen some that look like metal breast/hat pins that look really cool. It is hard to decide which route to go
:-)--<
Once we get to that point - how do I go about issuing the ribbons to everyone that receives one?
Good modeling and I hope everone keeps plugging along with progress reports and pics,
Wayne
