ALRIGHT YOU SONS'A....very nice mothers
:-)
this Campaign has been sitting around in the pending stage for a while now.
now please, anyone who is thinking of replying with something like, well obviously no one is interested in this campaign, spare me your opinions.
Me and Jo still have faith in this campaign, and im sure the other members who have signed up do as well!
There is SO much variety on things you can build for this campaign guys!
although it may be overlooked, and when the word somalia comes to mind the first thing some of us think of is Black Hawk Down, that is NOT all that happened in Somalia.
There was much more that went on their other than the USA's 10th mountain, rangers, and deltas contribution, for insatnce, Australia sent our SAS, our M113's, and our LAV-25's, and also a few battalions of infantry over time.
so comon guys, variety, you could build a C-130 thats jsut come into mogadishu airport, an Aussie digger seaking shade next to a ruined brick wall, or anything from the other countrys that were there.
Im sure if you give it a chance, this campaign can become soemthing really good.
ENLIST NOW!
cheers

Maybe I'll join hehe. I like the subject!

Howdy David,

As I've already expressed my personal interest in helping get your fledgling Campaign off the ground (referring to the thread I started), and also taking into account the fact that this Campaign, as proposed, wouldn't end till October of next year.....I feel confident I can squeeze this endeavour into my already burgeoning modeling schedcule.
I'm proud to participate in it, and am quite positive it will be a very enjoyable 'Modern' modeling experience.

Now, on to a couple of things.
First, you might want to take the opportunity to post a direct link in this thread to the Campaign sign-up page......kinda like this, if I may?
'Capture Aidid' Campaign sign-up page link:
https://armorama.kitmaker.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=Campaigns&file=index&req=showcontent&id=49

Also, glad to see you actively recruiting for this Campaign. And even happier to see Rattler, Martinnnn and Cougar piping in on the build. But a quick check of the Campaign sign-up page shows these three fine gents are not listed.
Could this be 'fear of commitment'??....."participation anxiety"?.........just kidding fellas , just a reminder to sign up so that lestweforget's roster starts to properly ' fill out'.

Now, an accuracy question. Regarding the C-130 gunships...I believe that was part of the problem in Somalia as that they did not have either C-130's or heavy tank's available even after repeated official requests?....?....?
Anyone?

Good luck with your Campaign lestweforget!

Tread.

There are so many campaigns going on that I had to prioritize them according to what kits and parts I had in house. I have so many spare pieces and parts that I want to use them up first. Unfortunately I have no kits appropriate for Capture Aideed so it had to be dropped to the bottom. That doesn't mean that should I complete my other obligations that I can't go and get something to fit

:-) credit goes to mother on this one Gordon, this is his campaign, i simply asked his permission to help out and try n' get some more recruits.
As for the C-130, i believe they were in Somalia, but as we know, they were denied permission to help out on october the 3rd. along with the cobra's.
Hey Jo, as i told you even if we got 1 more person to sign up at least it would mean we got through to someone, and look, TWO people, good on ya white4doc and tread!
anyways,Keep Signin up guys! cheers

Howdy David,

Yep!...I stand corrected sir. This was mother's Campaign, my apologies mother for forgetting. I will blame it on my darn synapse's again.

Anyway, still glad to see you're getting some assistance on this one. And, as time goes by, and people are able to get past the Holidays, and hopefully catch up on their other Campaign commitments, your roster will garner some new members.

As to Shermie's givin' ya the 'soft' eye, just never mind about him......the real reason he doesn't want to build something for this Campaign is not because of some lame "...so many spare pieces and parts that I want to use them up first...." excuse, or because he has "...no kits appropriate for Capture Aideed so it had to be dropped to the bottom...." either.
The real reason he doesn't want to particiapte is because there were NO Sherman's in Somalia in 1993........that's all........geeeeeez..... :-) :-)

Tread.

Maybe we could drum up some far-flung theory of a Sherman-based Somalian 'technical' just to lure him in..........{in my best impression of a chicken} "...baaaaaaaaak, ......baaaakkk, baaak. :-)
Just tryin' to give your sense of humour some 'sunshine' time there Alan.......it is the season for 'Good Cheer'......

Howdy fellas,

Thx for the classified 'intel' on that hefty purchase of 37 M4A1's that Aidid made back in the Spring of '92 there David , I'd better point Shermie's at this thread and see if maybe he'll reconsider now that the 'truth' has finally come out about the presence of Sherman's in Mogadishu.

And to mlb63. Excellent choice! I have just recently built the new Tamiya Hummer kit, the M1046, and I've got to say it was an absolute PLEASURE to build! Even though I wish Tamiya would lower their prices a tad, and reach out to some more esoteric subject matter, when they turn out kits like their new Hummer, and the recently released T-55 kits.....well, it really raises the bar to a whole new level of quality.
You'll love the build!

And Martinnnn, if you are indeed (not Aidid ) thinking about building the Belgian Scimitar, do you already have the kit?
If not, I have the AFV Scimitar kit, along with some other kits I am planning on posting for sale and trade (just a handful of kits that I will never get to). So, if you were interested just let me know, if not, no worries.

Tread.

Oh, and many thx for posting the link for the picture of the Spectre gunship.

One has got to seriously ask why this bird was never allowed to participate in 'crowd control' during the engagement.

Hey tread, you do realize you need to send them to the Netherlands right? I don't know how much the shipping costs, but it won't be cheap I guess....

But I'll sure remember your offer!

Tread-
From what I have heard and read, Spectres weren't allowed because of the close proximity of US and Somali forces along with the large presence of Little Birds and Blackhawks.
As far as enrolling in the campaign, I am going to have to give a definite maybe. I am involved in multiple campaigns right now and each project involves some kind of scratchbuilding. It really boils down to how much progress I can make over the holiday (winter break starts in four school days and lasts for almost a month and a half ).

What kind of armor did the pakistanies use? (lol how do you write "pakistanies" heheh)

In black hawk down they drive vehicles that I would identify as Fuchs armored cars, but I'm not a modern AFV expert, in fact my entry for this campaign will be my first modern model ever!

Oh and before I forget, which country's send troops there anyway? I know about Pakistan, Belgium, and off course the United States. Were there any more?

unofficaly.. we were cut the use of such items as the gunships due to the mass damage they were known to cause.. as for the armour.. well the streets werent that wide to be honest where we were.. plus an the fact congress did not want to sink that much money.. and clinton agreed with them.

My 2 cents of personal knowledge.
