in progress photo for review. for my first go at figures i dont think it's that bad!!
next time i will make sure that they are looking where they should be.
i still have to put on dull-cote to get rid of the shine, but im wondering if anything should be done to the uniforms to give a little more depth?
i tried a thin dark wash to make shadows and ended up repainting because i wasnt happy with the result.

I love how you did the faces of the GIs, especially the skin tones. How did you do it?
Maybe you could also add a 5 o'clock shadow so that they would look more macho?
Cool!

Flesh tones look great this time. Unifoms are also good .do you paint the webbings and pouches after wash?
and IMHO lips can be painted a little pale (closer to the flesh tone)..no make-up during battle
congrats GI.those will look awesome after dull cote.
best regards

hi angela, and thanks for the compliment! i owe credit to all the advice received from other members.
yeah, i might try to add some whiskers to that one guy with the rocket. he's looking a little too baby-smooth!
i started with a base coat of testors cream and light tan acrylic mixed together.
using a 10/0 liner brush for the remainder -
to highlight i used a mix of the following grumbacher oils until i got a light skin color: titanium white, naples yellow, yellow ocher, raw sienna, and a smidge of cadmium red.
in a scallop formation around the temple and the cheek bone i dabbed in a bit of raw sienna to add some color.
in the eye socket i got just a little bit of burnt umber on the flat end of my brush and lightly touched upward on the inside of the brow bone to create a shadow.
next i dipped a piece of 24 gauge wire into my titanium white and gently applied it to the "almond" shape of the eye. i wiped of the excess and then dipped the end of the wire into the burnt umber and made a pupil by barely touching into that almond shape. i tried to make the dot off just a bit to make it look like they were looking someplace rather than straight ahead.
then i went over the eye sockets again to make the shadow look a little better .
for the lips it was a mix of the burnt umber and the cadmium red dry brushed gently in down strokes, and made sure that the paint reached into the crease of the lips just right. i dabbed a little more of the cad red and blended, but just a bit because it is very bright.
next i touched up with more light flesh as needed.

I think you did a marvelous job being that this is only your second kit. Some of those colors, techniques and terminolgy you are using sure don't sound like they are coming from a rookie. You did a helluva job on the Jepp for Move It and now the feared bazooka team for Tank Terror. You'll be loaded with Campaign Awards in no time!!!

Good looking job on them guys. I've tried to do figures and haven't been able to get it right yet. Those guys took damn near real. I think they are a great addition to our Campaign.

The second photo looks better than the first, though I like a warmer flesh tone, burnt sienna and titanium white in oils or Andrea "red Beige" as a base.
Also remember these were mostly 18-21 year olds.
Here's a picture of my father in law, a 17 year old about to land in North Africa on 26 November 1942. He's the guy just to the left of the "V" in "VA"
So "babyfaces" are quite acceptable. (He went on to fight in Sicily, Italy and the Bulge and was wounded at least twice, and is still reasonably healthy.)
