The campaign Dreadnoughts is now taking enlistments.
This is a Warship campaign for Battleships, the powerful and graceful ladies of the sea. Subjects can be any ship from the big gun sail ships of the late 1800's to the modern day Iowa class Battleships! Battlecruisers like the USS Alaska or the HMS Renown are aloud to. Any scale will work, as will any counties navy. The importance of this campaign is to build and learn about all the great Dreadnoughts of the world. These great ships will never be seen or used again. It gives us the chance to build a part of history.
So sign up now mates! The campaign don't start until August 1st. That give you plenty of time to get ready for the build. Which will last 8 full months, with a ending date of April 1 , 2006.

To enlist just go to the campaign area, scroll down to campaigns, then click on Dreadnoughts. There on the upper right you will find a box with the enlist button, just click that and you are all set!

In Advance, welcome aboard!

Garybeebe and all -

Check my post in "Warships - Voting is over, and we have a winner" for upcoming "Dreadnoughts". I'm offering to donate some of my "old" 1/700th "Waterline" WW II Battleship kits to those that just want to try out a Battleship build and not make a real investment (if this is alright with you Garry). Thought it might draw in a couple that would try it, just for the heck of it. I'm signed up and anxious to start collecting more!

Did anyone ever decide if the Soviet/Russian Kirov-class Battlecruisers were fair game?

Ok by me Blade48mrd, and a very nice gesture on your part! As a matter of fact, I think it is a great idea! Like you said in the other post, is'nt Armorama great. And it is kind hearted people like you that makes Armorama so great!
I think to get the word out, you should make a seperate post about your idea here on this forum. And thanks for the help bud!

Hello Jacques!
I am not framiliar with this Battlecruiser. Is it modern, missle systoms or guns? This campaign is for all the big gun Battleships and Dreadnoughts.
So not knowing what this ship is , I cant say right now.

What do you think mates? Any input on this?

Welcome aboard Scott! Glad to have you with us again. Yes I have built the Trumpeter USS Arizoa kit, so I can give you some pointers on that one. Its a good kit, with just a few little quirks in it! Glad you joined Scott.

Cheers,

The Kirov is a modern russian nuclear powered Cruiser that has been commented on by NATO observers as a Battlecruiser. The series are the largest non-aircraft carrier warships built since WWII. However, they are primarily missile armed ships, but they do have 2 130mm guns, but not "battleship" big guns...so, I need to look to the pile for a suitable replacement!

Howdy Joe !
Wow, so happy to have you onboard! You will have plenty of helping hands in this campaign. As far as a suitable kit , That depends on what scale you would be comfortable with. Your biggest selection is going to be in 1/700 the smaller scale. Blade48 has some good 1/700 Battleship kits he is providing to new warship builders, that might be good for you. If you are interested, send him a PM! Or if you want to start out with one of the big 1/350 kits, Tamiya make the best kits. I would suggest the Bismarck, Tirpitz or King George V, Prince of whales kits.
Dreadnoughts are Battleships! The first realy advanced Battleship was the British HMS Dreadnought. This name stuck for discribing the future generation of Battleships. Some people still call them Dreadnoughts!

Hope this helps mate!

A big welcome aboard the Dreadnought campaign ! Like Skipper said, I am amazed at the member interest in this campaign. And I want to add, I am very happy to see you all involved! This is shaping up to be an awesome campaign. And I beleave, we are modeling a very worthy subject. A great part of history that will never be again. I have always wondered how a giant powerful weapon like the Battleship could also be a thing of beauty and grace. But that they are to me!
I am very glad to have you all along on this Campaign mates!

Cheers

I personally am a tread head. 1/35th armor has been my passion for many years. But, I have always loved the Battleship. It started with the WWII North Carolina. I was always amazed at how much armament that ship had on it.

For this campaign, I am going to build the Iowa class Battleship produced by Tamiya.

I would like to decal it as the Missouri but I think the modernized Missouri was different from the New Jersey. Does anyone have any concrete knowledge of this?
