Well, I tried to post this in 'Canuck Steel' but couldn't find a forum for it...
So, Anyway, Logan & I stated work on an Airfix 1:87 Cheiftain over the weekend (A note to our friends across the pond- he chose this tank because it was the " CUTEST" in my stash )
and I've considering entering it in the Canuck Steel campaign.
So does anyone know if our northern neighbors ever used these hulks? If so, which units & where might I find markings?
If none of these were ever used north of the border, does anyone know if these are still in frontline service by any country? It may become a T2K5 entry ( "Last stand @ the gates of Saamuur... )

Thanx for the speedy reply Bryan !
Oh, well, just figured Maggie & her cohorts might have unloaded a few on you while the MiniDef had his back turned...you know, for your own good & all...
So...anyone else who may have used or may still be using them?

Robert.
The closest you'll get to a Canadian Chieftain is one used at BATUS (British Army Training Unit Suffield)
in Alberta.
As for those used by other countries the main users were (AFAIK) Iran and Kuwait. I think you will also find that Iraq used captured Chieftains against the Allies in OIF.

Well, Smeg & other nastiness...
BTW, Peter, why exactly would there be a BATU in Canada with vehicles that weren't used there? Did the Crown keep armored regiments in the Great White North to protect them from a cross-polar invasion or some other scheme which belongs in the Hoess file (sorry, see the History forum...)?

BATUS is where the British Army comes to do "desert" training. They're desert training center used to be in the middle east I believe in Jordan but for obvious reasons 25+ years ago they moved it to canada. You wouldn't think that we could provide a desert enviroment would ya :-) :-)
Cheers,
Bryan

Robert
BATUS is a large area near Medicine Hat in Alberta that's used for live firing excercises by the British Army. At the moment you'll find Challenger II's and Warriors amongst the vehicles there. Have a look here
