Hi amphibs!

It's very very good to see that already 25 members have enlisted for the Amphibs campaign. If you come to the Netherlands I'll all buy you a beer :-)

Anyway, I was wondering what you have in mind for this campaign? Any ideas on what your entry or maybe entries may be? With or without diorama? Well just everything that you have in mind (unless you want to keep it as a surprise of course)

My entry will be a LVT-4 "Buffalo", in use as an ambulance by the 17th Canadian Light Field Ambulance, at Walcheren, the Netherlands. It will be included in a diorama.

The background story: In 1944, the Allies needed a new harbor because supply lines were too long and the advance stopped. Antwerp had a very nice and big harbor, but it was protected by numberous gun emplacements at the island Walcheren, which is located in the South-East of the Netherlands. The gun emplacements were protected by a great defensive line with a lot of bunkers.

Walcheren and the Antwerp harbor

To take Walcheren, the RAF bombed the sea dike at Westkapelle, a town located in the far West corner of the island. The water from the sea set large pieces of Walcheren under water and Germans were forced out of their bunkers. However in the dunes there was still a lot of recistance and there were some large gun batteries still active. Royal Marine Commandos (41th and 47th) landed near this hole in the dike and cleared the dunes and bunkers there. Also another landing took place at a town called Vlissingen.

Not only commandos but also supporting forces landed at Walcheren, like the Canadian 17th field ambulance. They used Buffalo's because half of Walcheren was still under water:

Well, that's my entry. For those who can read Dutch, check my atlantikwall website. You'll find all the info you need about this subject and some nice reference pictures for bunkers :-) I hope this was an interesting story....I think this part of the war is forgotten by a lot of people who only think about Normandy when they talk about the Atlantikwall or amphibious landings in WW2.

Now, what is your idea?

Greetings,
Martin

That sounds nice. Don't know if there were any Schwimmwagens in panzer grey...maybe at the end of the war when the Germans ran out of paint....

I'll join this one if I can get a good start on some of the group builds I have already committed to. I am anxious to start that Italeri DUKW and also have a couple of other Braille scale swimmers that I could do as well.

I'll probably join, but most likely after I finish other builds.

Cause you haven't enlisted yet :-)

Please go to this link:

https://armorama.kitmaker.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=Campaigns&file=index&req=showcontent&id=75

At the right side of the page, you see a list of names. Above that list, there's a button that says "enlist"

Click it, and you're in!

I'll be attempting to build an OIF Marine AAV7A1. I have the Tamiya UGWS for the base and the MiniHobby kit for the EAAK. The plan right now is to try and scratchbuild an interior but my scratchbuilding skills are pretty sad. The finished project just may end up being buttoned up...

I have the LVT4. That is the one with the cargo bay and machine guns. I would have liked to to the LVT4(A) with the short 75mm but that kit was not on sale.

I always like interiors in models, especially if they are scratchbuild (that doesn't go for my own scratchbuild interiors though, they suck haha)

Looking forward to see your AAV7A1 !!

Btw, why is it called the AAV7A1? Something like Amphibious Assault Vehicle type 7 version A1?

Greetings,
Martin

Hello all,
I should build a LVTP7A1 with a scratchbuilt interior. I don't intend to use any aftermarket parts except some pieces of crew equipement to give it a living look.

Even more scratchbuilding.....that should give the (future) campaign gallery some really nice models!

I picked up an Italeri LVT-4 for cheap a couple months ago. I plan to backdate it to an earlier version than what comes in the box and put it somewhere in the Pacific. Maybe in the Aleutians

Actually, I haven't spent a lot of time researching this yet. Still plenty of time for that.

I've you've got info about how to backdate the kit, I really would like to hear! Would like to have my own LVT a little accurate too!

I probably will join since the campaign doesn't start until summer vacation. My project will be a scratchbuilt Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle (or Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle).
