I have some questions on the Canadian M4A4 75mm version I may end up converting the DML M50 into one I know they had only the TC hatch Would I be able to use the Tamiya M4 turret? Will I need to make any modifications to it? Also, which gun mantlet was more common? The early type-M34,or the later type-M34A1?
Were they painted in U.S. OD?
What type of tracks were common? I'd like to use the T48 rubber chevron I have a set of decals from Ultracast It's the BC Dragoons set It comes with two sets of unit markings The #53 on red and blue/green background Which was more common
Also it has the "T" registration #'s I thought any Canadian vehicles had "CT" instead Any help is welcomed Thanks in advance

I thought the M4A4 had the extended hull, and the M50 was based on the M4A3 so there would be one heck of a hull conversion to do there!?
Regarding the markings - 53 was the designation for the third tank regiment in a division, on a red ground it signified an armoured regiment and on the blue/green ground a reconnaissance regiment - did the BC Dragoons serve as a recce unit at any time?
Not sure if more than one turret type was used, but most of the M4A4s I've seen in pics have low-bustle turrets with M34A1 mantlet.

You could be right, just found a link that says that the M50 was built on M4A3 & M4A4 hulls.

Hi Chad,
Here are a few answers to your questions.
Yes you can use the Turret from the Tamiya M4. As far as the mantlet is concerned your going to have to decide if your tank is an early version or a later. Most of the Sherman V's in NWE had the later M34A1 mantlet while the majority in Italy had the earier M34 mantlet untill they could refitted or when they transferred to NWE. Thats a pretty simplified explanation but I think you get the gist of it. The most Common tracks on Sherman V's was either T62 Steel cleat with 3 rivets or T49 3 bar cleat. I have also seen T48 and T54E1 And T54E2's as well. As far as markings go The BC Dragoons used the Red AOS and not the Green and blue, The War department numbers on Canadian Tanks can be either T or CT for Tank or Canadian Tank. I hope that answers your questions. If not just PM Me.
Cheers,
Bryan
P.S
The M50 did utilise the M4A4 hull.

The geometric shapes indicate the squadron (the cavalry equivalent of a company).
The diamond is for the HQ units
Triangle = A Sqd.
Square = B Sqd
Circle = C Sqd.
Different colours indicated the Regiment/Battalion seniority
Red = senior
Yellow = second senior
Blue = junior
