Tank Destroyers, your attention please!

I just saw the Tank Destroyers campaign is being approved. This means we can prepare ourselves for the build (if you haven't already lol) Check the campaign page for more info on the campaign.

No word on the new campaign name ("Garry's Tank Destroyers") and the campaign leadership yet (see this thread but I think we're gonna hear about this soon enough. - edit: campaign name is changed -

I know Garry asked already what you guys had in mind, buy maybe some of you changed mind of some of you didn't had an idea at that time already, so....

What are you gonna build?

I've got 2 ideas, maybe I will do them both:

- Panzerjäger Bren (captured brencarrier with triple panzerschreck)
- Valentine Archer (Valentine tank with 17pdr)

Both will be scratchbuild conversion, because I want to make something special out of this campaign and because I want to improve my scratchbuild skills....

So, what's your idea?

I'll make the update.

As far as an entry - possibly Academy's M36 - as it's sitting right in front of me at the moment...

My initial plan was to build a Ferdinand, but my itchy hands got the better of me coz I finished it before the campaign. I plan to enter my DML Elefant instead -- I plan to build a dio out of it. BTW, is it OK to build the kit with a damaged/detroyed look e.g destroyed tracks?

Thanks

Supposedly, I'm going to build a Nashorn on a dio depicting a set-up beside a Russian barn. However, with only 3 months of running time, I don't think I can finish a dio in that short of a time.

Therefore, I think I'll just make the Nashorn. Then, after I submit the official pics for the entry, I'm going to make the dio out of for my personal enjoyment.

i'll be doing a vignette based on the AFV achilles with 2 figs, somewhere in holland 1944. currently, the hull interior is finished and just base-coated the turret interior in black... and this was 2 months ago ! ...guess i'll have to get back to it soon

I see a lot of great ideas! We will have a nice campaign gallery once we're all finished!

I'm sorry I have to say this but your entry must be something that you have build between the start en end date of the campaign. You've started already on the Achilles while the campaign hasn't started yet and therefore you can not use it as entry. That's how campaign works, I'm sorry

Do you think you can start a new TD when the campaign has started?

Cheers,
Martin

Hi gang,

My entry will be the DML early Hetzer, and if I can find some extra time, I'll try to throw in a M36 Jackson....

I can't wait to start!!!

Yeah sure, the 251/22 was build to hunt tanks, so it's a tank destroyer! I may do this kit too (if I've got the money lol)

Is the "Tank Destroyer" Campaign still to be for only "full tracked" tank destroyers? I think this was what Garry had planned originally. Not a problem to me, but if focus is changing to open it up to all TDs, I think you need to clarify so people are clear.

Well going to build DML's Ferdinad in 1/35th and if time allows (So many campaigns so little time) AFV's M10. Gonna have to build like I did for FSM, Fast and Furious (spell bad too!) :-) :-)

I asked Garry if I could build a Demag with a 5cm PAK, and he didn't seemed to have a problem with that.

But maybe you are right......how do the others feel about this? And what would you think of me building a Panzerjäger Bren, which also isn't a really "tank-looking" tankdestroyer like for instance a M10.

We need to draw a line somewhere. This is what Garry said:

"The only rules that we will have is that only self propelled tracked Tank Destroyers can be built"

So you could build a RSO with PAK40 and not a Sdkfz 251/22 because the RSO is fully tracked and the Sdkfz is not? I'm not sure what to do here.

I need your feedback here people! What do you think? I just bought myself the Sdkfz 251/22 for a low price and I wanted to use this one as entry myself. Also, I expect my universial carrier to arrive soon and I wanted to convert it into a Panzerjäger Bren or I wanted to arm it with a Boys AT rifle. Both designed for hunting tanks.

Cheers,
Martin

To me a tank destroyer could be a fully tracked, half tracked or even wheeled vehicle For instance a wheeled TD would be a German SdKfz 234/4 That was an 8 wheeled armored car that had a PaK 40 75mm A/T gun

That's what I was thinking.....

Maybe someone had close contact with Garry about this campaign and knows what he was thinking?

I agree with Chad his describtion of a Tank Destroyer. Every vehicle build to kill tanks.

Just not the fully wheeled vehicles as Garry clearly mentioned the vehicle needs to have tracks.

Maybe I will buy a M18 to then, just to make sure I've got a good entry lol :-)
