Hi all,
Here are some pics of my Jeep and Dingo which are painted with tamiya acrylics. Weathering still has to be done, as well as adding accesoires etc.....canvas rolls, tent rolls, camouflage netting....we'll see
The Jeep is the Italeri kit, the Dingo is the Tamiya kit, the Jeep driver comes from Ultracast and the Dingo crew member is a Tamiya figure. All are OOTB. They represent vehicles from the Polar Bear division during the liberation of the Netherlands, 1945.
Hope you like it so far!
Martin

These look good Martin. I can't make out the details of the weathering in these pics, but the overall effect is ok so far - are these for a diorama? If so then I guess you'll weather the tyres etc to suit the groundwork?

Yep, they are for a diorama. Check these pics for an idea of what it will look like:
Weathering will match the dio setting!

Hey Martin!
I like!.. I like!
I'm looking forward to your discussion on the building of the farm house. I've been gleaning techniques that others have used to make a test run on building my own building. Just to see how it would look.
I have an idea for a Battle of Berlin dio ( another one of those that have been an on again and off again project.) At any rate, I thought I would build one first as practice.

Martinn, first of all your pics (of the vehicles) are too dark, i'm afraid I can't see any of the details.
Secondly, The figures (apart from the jeep driver) are the Tamiya ones. You've done a pretty good job on them although you should have more variation in the helmets - these are MK 1s. By that stage of the war there was a real variation in helmet types, the Mark 3 was becoming more common so you should consider either one of the DML British infantry sets. Infantry were also using leather jerkins as well. Even crews of ACs were using the one piece 'Pixie Suit' as well No vehicle crew would be dressed in this manner.- to sum up, change the figures!...Jim

I was already happy I had this light while taking the pictures lol. They're too dark I know but I need daylight as well and as I work all day it's pretty hard to take good pics..

I don't think they used pixie suits. I've seen a lot of liberation pics and no crew uses them. They're winter gear, not the kind of uniform you wear on a nice and sunny spring day. Sorry but I think you're wrong here.
The figures are just OOTB, I used what was inside the kit. The poses were excellent for the dio I had in mind. The uniforms looks a lot like the ones the English/Commonwealth infantry wears on pics I've seen. Variation doesn't really seem to be a problem to me. There are only 3 figs with helmets, of which one has camouflage mesh on the helmet. So, 2 different looking helmets on 3 figures. Enough variation to me.
So, sorry, but I disagree on your comments. Thanks for posting them though, I like comments, especially when I can use them :-)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
About the diorama:
It isn't a winter setting, not at all. This is more what I have in mind.....Dutch spring
That's also why I don't use winter uniforms like the pixie suit. I want a happy, sunny setting with happy civils, happy soldiers, nice weather.....everything is just ok....Nazi's are gone.....Liberation!
Cheers,
Martin

O.K. fair comment Although the Pixie suits can be seen in almost any theater of war - there was a simple reason for this. It wasn't protection from the cold entirely, rather the padding on the suits gave a lot of protection from the movement of the vehicle. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence of A/C crews getting hold of the suits whenever and wherever they could... The suit itself was issued /officially) to RE, RA, and 'Special vehicles'..
Remember also that in he field, a lot of 'official' regulations went out of the window bringing a huge variation in clothing and equipment. The only accurate sets in plastic for Commonwealth figures are those of DML along with the crew from the Firefly, the Tamiya figures are missing many details..Jim
