Please take a look at these pics and let me know what you all think. It's a " what if " the invasion of Japan had taken place.

Looks great so far What did you use for markings? My only critisism is the U-shaped towing clevises on the transmission cover I don't think that type was used on this later type of transmission cover But I could be wrong

I like that build. I recognize the Verlinden sandbags. What Sherman kit is that?

The markings were custom made for me by a friend. He just started his own business, they're masks. You can find him here under gator. Linda is my girlfriends name. The clevis's are kit supplied. This is the first Sherman I've ever built so I'm not real familiar with what should or shouldn't go on it. It's been a fun project so far.
Thanks for the reply,is the weathering ok? Not sure how much to weather ww2 armor. I usually build modern stuff.

It's Dragons new release. The M4A2 (76 ) Red Army . Its a pretty good kit. The barrell is turned aluminum ( kIt supplied ) two different style road wheels, some photo etched light guards, and alot of clear parts. The only complaint I have is the fit of the upper and lower section of the turret. Besides that it's been a joy to build. It's a what if project based on the propossed Operation Olympic. The planned invasion of Japan.
I see where you've built quite a few Shermans. very interested in our opinion on the weathering so far. To much ; to little ? I usually build modern stuff.
Thanks all for the imput.

As far as the highlighting and drybrushing stuff is concerned I think you are looking good with the weathering. Perhaps a little more dark wash to give some of the lighter painted areas some more definition and just a little more rust highlights.

I have started actually experimented with applying mud and goo onto my Shermans as an added dimension but as far as painted weathing you are (pardon the pun) on the right track!.

That looks great! Two things, though, the sandbags look to much like a single molded piece than indiviual sandbags, and the USMC lettering is to bright and prominent. Other than that, that looks great!

Think I can fix the sandbags with a little creative dry brushing. I think shooting some dull coat with a touch of black might tone down the lettering. Thanks for the info. When I get it fixed will post some more pics. Thanks all for the heads up.

Hi Jerry,

Although I'm not familiar with Shermans being used in the Pacific theater, this one looks very good.

I can't comment much because your work is not yet finished but your camouflage is very well executed. A good amount of weathering wil perk this baby up. Don't forget to add stowage at the back so it wil liven up the tank

Although the side "coincides" with the camo pattern of the tank, I'd rather prefer if the wood was painted as wood, not Olive Drab/Green and tan as the tank. It would give variety to the colors. However, it looks good...that was just my personal preference.

On another note:

I am not sure if this will apply for your Sherman considering that it's an M4A2. But just in case you plan to build another Tamiya Shermie, you might want to fix the inaccuracies. Here is the reference site:

and for the turret:

and for the dust reflector

G'day bro
Looks excellent, i cant really see any faults, the one thing i mightve changed was to tone down the yellow USMC writing.
Cheers, great job mate

A very nice model, but I found an error thet realy bothers me. What is that? (in the red circle). Did you spill some glue? But, as I said, a very, very nice model.

Not real sure just yet what it is in the pic. But I think it's either a to light wash or some trash in my airbrush. Got to love the blow-ups on the pics. Picks up flaws I can't see. Why I use a macro lense. I
'm in the process of trying to correct what everyone has pointed out to me. Bear with me.
I do plan on adding a bunch of gear to it. And hopefully having it end up in a dio. So it will get some further weathering past what I'd normally do to a model.
Thanks again everyone for all the great ideas.
Angela : it's a bit to late to change the paint on the hull mounted boards, but I'm giving it some serious consideration on the track mounted wood. I like your idea of leaving it a wood color.
Thanks all
Jerry

Hi

How about some paint chipping? The vegetation in the jungle and the salty water and sand on the beaches really has influence on the paint.....

Nice job on the camouflage, I like it!

Thanks, bro. I'm actually compiling a list of the ideas all of you have given me to do. I like them.
Do you have any suggestions on applying realistic paint chips to armor? Aircraft I know, I work on them, armor is another thing totally.
Thanks again

You're welcome, Jerry.

Remember that the wood planks to be colored wood was just my personal reference. It also looks good leaving it camouflaged the way it is.

Although I have not done it yet on my Marine Sherman, I had the thought of damaging the planks either with breaks, bumps or scraps. Then I would paint the planks natural wood where the damage took place. When I camouflage the planks I would paint around the damaged areas leaving the wood exposed. That way it looks like the plank has broken through the camo paint all the way to the wood.

I also noticed that you did not break up the manlet with any light color camouflage. I would probably put a light diagonal across the mantlet somewhere so that it is not a big olive drab rectangle.

In truth the more I thought about it , the better just bare wood planks on the running gear looked. I was brought up to give credit were it's due. So thank you for the good idea.
