This is the old MiniTrucks kit, from 1989. Scale is 1/50, and is made from resin, white metal, and some photo-etched parts.
I can sure say that the after market/limited run resin/white metal kits have come a long way since this was made. A lot of filing, and filling, and a few new words were invented to get the white metal chassis and axles into a somewhat square and level arrangement.
Here's a few shot during assembly,
Here's a few after a little more work, and a coat of paint.
Still have to search out 1/48 scale markings... remember it's 1/50 scale, I'll probably patch up some from several aircraft sheets.
Still have to do the head lights, guards, and a few smaller parts, and details.
Paint is Tamyia OD... (yes I actually used an acrylic, just to remind me why I don't...... LOL )
Just noticed I miss spelled Heavy.... don't type and talk on phone at same time Dave.!!!!

I wish that you wouldn't post this in the RR board. I can't tell you what to improve on!. This is another fine example of your work. I will enjoy seeing it completed.

Well, scraped up the star decals from the spare decal locker, the serial numbers and USA I made up from some HO and N gauge railroad lettering.
The MV lens came with the kit, strange though, over the years one yellowed a little, the other stayed clear.... I decided I like it better without the top.
Still have some more light weathering to do, and the trailer connections to add, along with a few small paint details.
Pictures are not the greatest, took them at 4 AM, and didn't bother with tripod.

Great Job on the Truck Dave,Very interesting looking vehicle. I can't see anything that I would change except maybe more dust on the bottom side to stay inline with the dirt on the tires. That yellow lens actually adds some interest, it could be a burned out light.
Oh one more thing ( I'm no expert in trucks) but shouldn't the little wheel thing on the trailer be folded up when not in use?
Bruce

The dollies came in two forms, one type folded rearward when cranked, the others telescoped upwards. In my wayward youthful days I use to hangout as a kid at the frieght station/wearhouse down the block from where I spent my young mishaped years. The drivers were pretty cool back in the early 50's, and would take the kids from the hood out for spins in their big rigs...while their loads were being off loaded.
In order to earn this "treat", we used to doing the raising and lowering of their dolly wheels...... the spin always included a trip to either the diner or bar..... with a meal thrown in.... most knew I came from a very poor home... until my mother remarried. LOL......
How times have changed..... today you can't get near a shipping terminal without 20 forms of ID, and with all the lawsuits....... well, enough said......... :-) :-) :-)

I love that truck! It is the Autocar right? I just might to get the DES kit... when I have the money for it. I like the way you finished this truck. The weathering is just right, it perfectly shows the 3D of the truck. I also like the tires and cobblestones.

Paul, it's actually the Federal.... The Autocar, and Federal really do look alike, that you need to do several double takes.
This is an old 1/50th scale resin, white metal kit.
I would love to get the 1/35 scale Auto car kit, perhaps as a future project. (I'd like to get the 1/35 Federal kit also.
By the way, I actually picked this up off off ebay about 5 years ago for $15.00.
