Here's one of my current projects... it's the rather excellent kit from DML with just a few mods....

I did not think that the kit tracks were correct for the tank that I am modeling so, I replaced them with a set of tracks from WWII Productions.

The front mud flaps were replaced with bits from an Aber set... the screens on the engine deck are also from Aber.

Tool brackets are from Eduard.

Tim, nice build so far. Waiting for my Tiger in the mail. Where did you find the tracks? They look great. Are they resin or plastic. Sorry for interrogation. "Q"

The tracks are resing tracks from WWII Productions... I got mine from Gene Bagnoli at a show recently.. they are available from a few shops. The price is a bit high; however, i think that the ease of assemble and the level of detail is worth it.

Tim I'm sorry to tell you this but the initial tracks were right and left sided. The first 15 or 20 tanks had these tracks. DMLs are correct for the initial production run.

Your tracks are correct for a later model Tiger.

Hi Tim,
Nice build, how do you like the kit? Did you run into any problems either with fit or the instructions?

Robert

Robert,
First off thanks for the comments on the model.

I thought that it was a great kit. The basic model built up very quickly... though, it seems that I have slowed down on this one due to researching the final tiny details.

These things come with instructions ... maybe that's where I went wrong... I generally do not build in the 'recommended' order, as I find that it limits the ability to assemble, then paint things. The overall construction process in the kit instructions was generally very, very good.

The one real problem area in this kit is the photoetch that is supplied. The tool brackets were very difficult to assemble. So, difficult in fact, that I failed to assemble even one of them and eventually replaced all of the tool brackets with items from an Eduard set. In addition, the photoetched mudflaps for the front were not the correct size.. i don't know what they were thinking... it's awesome that they included three different choices of mud flaps... but none of the choices actually fit correctly.

I do have one caution, be very careful when attaching the side plates on the lower hull. The fit of these parts has a bit of 'slack' and if you're not very careful, you'll end up with a gap where you least want one.

Scott,

Actually, photographs of the tank that I am modeling... show that it has these types of tracks... i seldom believe much of what I read (especially on the net, it's usually written by guys like me )... but i usually try to do my research from reference materials and try to model from photographs.

The kit tracks may be 'handed' and they may also be correct for initial production tigers... however, this tiger did not have them at the time that I am trying to depict.

Thanks for the pointers Tim. I have this kit but I am not sure that I want to build it. If that makes any sense, I am actually looking forward to the early variant as there are so many vehicles to model. More than likely this kit will go in the closet (minus some of the goodies) with all the rest of my "had to have it right now" kits.

Tim ...Nice build so far ..I know what you mean by these tigers slowing down when you get to the smaller parts... Are you building # 111 ? Keep up the good work ...
Scott ...as Tim has already mentioned most of these tigers need to have tracks replaced and once there were no more sided tracks ,they were fitted with the regular tracks ..Good catch on that one Tim..

I am actually building the Tiger '2' which as far as I know was the 111... the tanks were renumbered around Jan. 43 and the finished model will have a white wash scheme.

I'll post some more pics soon.

I too was thinking of finishing this kit in a white winter Camo whenever I get to it ... They did have a very interesting winter scheme which will be very intersting to paint ...Can't wait to see how yours comes out..
