just finished this and thought I'd share it with this group as I've just found it.
I started modeling back in Dec 2001 and this is my 4th armor kit.
I think its my best work yet.

Delbert,
Welcome to Armorama. Did you say you only do this since a few months ? You certainly know your way around painting vehicles ! I admire your "chipped paint" technique, especially in the middle picture.
Very nice work, we hope to see more of that !

Your model looks great! How was building it?
Please tell us about its constructions and the difficulties you've found.

Nice job Delbert!

Any comments on the kit?

Your paint job is very good. I'm not a big fan of paint chipping, but the Afrika vehicles are an appropriate choice for that! Did you have some trouble with the tracks? There looks to be a kink in the track run in that first photo. I built a T34, applied mud to the tracks, and when the putty/mud dried, it pushed the tracks up off all the road wheels. Sigh...

Cheers
Andy

Hello all and thanks for the welcome, I took up the hobby in Dec 2001, I finally decided I could afford to get into the hobby, so I took the plunge. my first 2 models was a revell P-61 which almost caused me to quit right there and then I did a Tamiya M3A2 Halftrack and it was a nice and very enjoyable build so I guess I'm here to stay.

I do a lot of Research on what i'm trying to do and I must say this is the first time I can say that what I saw in my head became what I held in my Hands.. and what a feeling it is.

I also took this one to a contest today. took 1st place in 1/35 armor, and a Best of Class Award.

This was the first Dragon kit i've done, and I have to say it will not be my last. The detail is great, and there are a lot of peices, (474 in this one) which is what I like. the only thing i've noticed is that their larger peices tend to have several circular depressions..(sinkhole or what ever) in them so it takes some filling. and they tend to have more area's joining to the trees than some kits.. I.e. most of the wheels were joined to the tree at 4 area's instead of 2. The directions, while fairly clear for the assembly process and decal placement, are kind of vauge on what the insignia means. and the Decals were Fragile.

The only difficult parts of this build were aligning the body panels so that they all lined up and met correctly, and building the link by link track.

Each track on this model was 78 peices. one track i had difficulty as the Model master glue I was using softened up a couple of the links pins and I had to glue them in place losing the fexiability in spots.. the other track I switched to 15-30 sec CA (superglue) and didn't have a problem.

I think i've mastered the Desert style weathering and one place i really improved in this model is with the Figure painting. now I guess I will go on to try a vehicle in Europe..LOL

Delbert.

It looks good. I too am curious about paint chipping, especially on vehicles that haven't been in the desrt too long...Any vets from Operation Desert Storm answer this one?

Figures look good too. I like the guy reading the map. I find that pose more enjoyable realistic than the one of Rommel, maybe I would have rested his hand on the gun shield and made him a little less stiff. Though these are VERY minor "quibbles".

Keep up the good work you NOOB

I wish I was a new modeller with your skill .... sigh.

Yes, Jeff, this is Rommel himself. It's the DML 250/3 command car of Rommel. By the way, Delbert, very nice work, forth model you said? it's beautiful. Only wish mine is as good as yours. I only started this March, and had really gone anywhere....

Wow, after eight years I'm suprised to see you still have the kit in one piece. After a couple of years mine usually get scrapped and robbed for good bits for new projects Still looks really good though.
