Hi all,
Here are some new pics of my Sdkfz 251/22. I'm first gonna finish the hull before I'll continue on the PAK40.
My second attempt in free hand camouflage....not perfect but I'm satisfied with the results. Weathering will make it look a lot different (and that's what I always like the most....weathering) as well.
Comments are welcome. Also help for the decals. The instructions show 1 vehicle with only license plates and no numbers on the hull or unit insignia....is this accurate?
Martin

Martin,
I love your camo paint job. You have done what I hope I can do on my 234/1 that I'm working on. As for the license plates with no unit insignia or numbers - it sounds perfectly normal for the period of time that this vehicle would be in service.

Looking very nice indeed - just one suggestion, when it comes to the weathering stage, pay a bit more attention to the muffler. One suggestion is to use paint mixed with baking powder and then rust weathering powders. This was the area which really became heavily weathered ue to the heat of the exhaust.
Personally, I wouldn't advocate much in the way of 'chipping' the quality of the german paint would go against this...
Really nice camo pattern, like this a lot...Jim

Martin, it's looking very good! A suggestion? This kit really does benefit from etched tool clamps, if you don't fancy cleaning the block from the supplied tools, it's even worth it just to put the etched 'U' shape around it, a 100% improvement. May I ask what ammo belt you used for the MG42? Is it with the kit?

Hey
I don't have any PE for this kit...and I usually don't use any PE. But if it really improves a kit that much I may try it on one of my next models
The ammo belt came with a Dragon figure set...don't know which one. Most of those ammo belts are useless...lot of flash and if you want to remove it you'll break the belt because it's so fragile. I just took out 3 pieces without flash and glued them together
Still looking for etched ammo belts.....any suggestions where to find those?

That camo pattern is superb - very impressive. Would you mind telling me which paints you used for the MG please?

Great looking camo How did you tone down the green and redbrown paint? I have airbrushed on camo in the past but it doesn't look as great as yours does

I sprayed at low air pressure with a mix of 50% paint - 50 % thinner....
I'm just trying things out now with this sort of camouflage painting.....

Martin, looks like you have a great start there. I think that the camo looks really good. Keep up the good work, and show us some more progress.
