I was gathering information on this subject anyway and then I read a post elsewhere on this topic. I have the excellent book from Quartermasters on the Canadian Centurions (good for any Cents really). However I was wondering if there are any lists of what items need adjustments from a standard British Mark 11 to portray a Canadian mark 11 Centurion. Someone on ML is also looking for similar information but I know we have some good canuck resources here so I wanted to ask.

Thanks
Rob

ps. I am working with the Accurate Armor Centurion Mark 11 kit if that matters.

Rob,

Funny you should ask. I am working on converting the AA Centurion Mk.11 to a Canadian version as we speak.

It depends on what year you are modelling your Centurion Mk.11.

There aren't many mods required:

-mount the AA supplied driver's windscreen box on the upper left hull area...AA says in the instructions not to mount it for the British version, but all Canadian Mk.11s had it mounted.

-mount the 100 gallon long range fuel tank.

-mount a commander's cupola machine gun mount from a M113 on the Commander's hatch ring and mount a .50 in the mount.

-up until 1966 the antenna mounts and antennas used were for the British Mk.19 radios...as supplied with the AA kit. From 1967 onwards the antenna mounts and antennas were the U.S. style AMUs and antennas.

-some Canadian Mk.11s have the extended front fenders, it appears to be not standardized.

- the turret bin mounted fire extinguishers are different than the British ones. The Canadian ones appear larger like a small house hold hand held portable.

-Canadian Cents usually mounted spare roadwheels on the top of the turret rear and on the 100 gallon tank.

-None of the references that I have show spare track links mounted on the turret like shown on the AA kit.

-the standard tracks are OK until up to about 1973. After that the rubber track padded Hush Puppy tracks were mounted.

As far as paint schemes-the four colour cam is good up until about 1969, then the three colour cam was introduced.

There will be examples of the Mk.11 in the three colour cam with the original tracks. Alot of the three colour cammed Mk.11s that I have seen do not have the barrel themal jackets.

As far as callsign markings...the Quarter Master's Depot decals for the LdSH(RC) Mk.11s are close but incorrect. My references show no black background for the callsigns on the turret, just white numbers and letters. The rest of the decals are correct.

Three colour RCD Mk.11s had larger callsigns painted on the sideskirts and not on the turret.

Awesome thanks that is exactly the kind of checklist I was hoping I could get. Now I can sit and make some plans using the books I have.

Thanks Jason.

Legend makes a conversion kit for an aussie MkV/1 which has the searchlight, turret basket and external fuel tank.

Paul,
I am using parts from both the Legends Centurion Mk.V conversion and the Aussie Mk.V/1 conversion for details on the Accurate Armour kit.

I will be using the jig from the Mk. V/1 to build the turret basket as AAs is solid and filled. Other parts from the conversions will be the spare road wheels, the pioneer tools, and some of the PE parts.

I should lots of parts left over for a future project of an 8CH Mk.V.

I lucked out on Ebay a while back with it.

I think I got it for about $ 100.00 Canadian, that's about $65.00 under list price for AA.
