Here's the first few details of a DML 88 that I am building.... The kit has been a real joy to build. The details all seem to be there and DML has provided us with a number of options.

I love that gun, nice build I don't see any glue.
How much did you spend on it (only the kit)??
What kind of color are you going to spray it?

Keep going! Keep us posted.

Very nice Tim, I'm just about to put paint on mine too. You might want to check the orientation of the hooks used to mount the chassis onto the wheeled dollies. You have one set upside down.

Tim,
it looks good and I anxiously await the final results.

One thing though... In the bottom pic, it seems that the "stick" above the breach and ramp (I think it is) to load shells, there is a mold-seam. Both along it's length and on the back/bottom.

Or is this part of the kit (I do not have the kit myself)? Cheers,

Harm

Hey Vinnie,
Thanks! I have been going so fast on this one... I forgot to check up versus down... :-)
I am sure that I would have found it about the time that I tried to test fit the carriage to it .

Can't wait to see your version of this fine kit.

Glue? we use glue to build these things #:-) #:-)

I use only Tamiya Super Thin (Though my stock is running low.. it's very scarce here in the US ).

I am in the mood to do the crew on it also... so, it will have to be Panzer Grey and Winter White wash...

This project has been a very easy one so far... I have been working on it for about 7 hours total...

Keep sending us pics

Cheers !!

Ciao Tim,
It looks really great!! The detail is really awesome, and I sure wish DML would apply that kind of work to a new American Halftrack (hope they're listening.) I'm anxious to see it finished.
Ciao for now

Looks great mate, I loved building the Tamiya one probaly one of my favorite builds. How does this compare? Did the kit come with the metal barrels or did you buy them. Was there anything wrong with the original barrel.
Please show us your progress

Dragon kit comes with choice of two metal barrels (Flak 36 and Flak 18 versions) and also includes two alternative plastic barrels. Everything you see on Tim's photos (and much more!) is included in DML kit. It is light years ahead in quality of Tamiya kit, and remember that Tamiya kit was excellent in its times!

I love it!
It looks professionally built and impressive!
I'm sure that after painting and with a right background you wouldn't see the difference between it and the real thing!
Great job indeed!

Isn't the barrel hollow?!

Very timely post. I was just looking at that at one of the "stores" on the left and was curious as to how good it was in the box.

It looks really nice, very clean, very well molded.
You've done a good job on building too

It looks nice, I've never seen one before with all those metal parts. It really gives the piece some back bone. Seems a shame if DML provided them that they didn't make that lower turning gear out of metal too so it could shine and have greasy spots.

Yeah... what he said....

And... I think that it is EVEN better than the Tiger I kit... there are little details that will be added by the aftermarket guys; however, out of the box the kit is very nice... I'll post more pics as I finish more of this great project.

Actually, the kit builds up pretty well... However, I have made the following notes -

1. Most of the parts fit together so well.. I found that I was going to fast and mixed things up (as pointed out above.. )...

2. The breach block has some minor seams that need filler, we are talking minor though...

3. The gun carriage requires careful attention as there are nice long seams that run along the top after the parts are assembled. It's nothing major.. just needs some Mr. Surfacer and a bit of fine sanding with the wet n' dry paper.

Later,
Tim

Scott,

Thanks... it is certainly a very nice kit... the box is actually packed with sprues...

Jeremy,
Thanks for the comments on the model...

I got my FIRST one from the guys at GreatModels... just pre-ordered early as I could... I also picked up another one at my Local Hobby Shop, Piper Hobbies in Chantilly, VA.... other shops seemed to have them in stock this week.. but they literally flew off the shelves.

I just picked mine up at the LHS. I'm afraid to open the box there is so much in there. He had one open on display. All I can say is "Keep them coming DML"!
