Hey all,
I visited the museum 'Wings Of Liberation' today and offcourse there was much to see and I took a lot of reference pictures (that will show up on my site soon).
But the museum had also a few very great and very inspiring diorama's.
I'll show you some pictures of the "Stalingrad" diorama. Unfortunatly, the pictures do not show all the great details it has and photograping it was quite difficult because of the glass.
But here they are:

inspiring
this dio really does a good job with the snow (Lots and lots of snow), and it really gives a feeling of total whiteout that would actually affect combat in a major way

sorry but i don't like the diorama at all. There's just too much snow around. It covers almost everything. A little snow OR a realistic whiteout is nice, but i don't like this. The building looks a little "carboard". A litle more color would be nice too. It looks all a bit too grey and white. The fig's aren't convincing too .
I think a museum like this deserves something better, something more advanced. The only thing visitors could see in this dio is "snow affects battle conditions." .Believe me, Stalingrad was a little more than snow.
Paul, get some kits and figs and make something better! .

Aye Sir! Yes Sir
I partly agree with you. The snow is on some places it could not be and I also missed the footsteps in it. The figures could be bether indeed too.
But the black/white overall look is very due to the flashlight... Believe me, there is some colour in it.
But as I said, the pictures do no right to the whole dio. When you stand there, it's quite impressive. On the very blown up pictures all nitpicks show and it's a whole bit differ than the impression you get in the museum.
All by all, I like it and it inspired me to make an urban dio once... so perhaps, soon there will be an other dio there indeed :-)

I like the rubble and the number of abandoned vehicles and stuff but something just didn't click with me. I think it's just too much darn snow. I would have liked to see foot prints and trails all the way down to the dirt in spots.
I also think that some of the figures could have uniforms not covered with snow. I looks like everyone has snow on him

It's a good inspiration.
But personally, I think the author of the dio needs to work more on the figure painting.
Also, there's too much snow. Although historically accurate, it hides the details, which is essential in drawing attention.

Correct me if im wrong but is that mk4 a later version, all the photo's ive seen of Mk4's in Stalingrad were the short barrel version. Bye the way I like the dio it may look dreary but i dont think Stalingrad was a very cheery place, I think he has caught the atmosphere.

I have to agree with the others, there's just too much snow. Looks like a "Fluff" factory exploded near by and covered everything.
