Hey Guys:
Here are some updated pics of my entry.
Gotta love the old box...almost retro....
This is the beast after the first two coats. The driver and the machine gunner have been BAGGED.
Check em out and let me know what you think. Only my second stab at a model so I know there is room to improve.
Will have more pics soon.
Brian

Yes, you have the muzzle brake turned through 90 degrees. If you can't move the barrel I suppose you could saw the brake off and re-attach it, but it's not really a big deal. Also, and this is really being picky! so don't take offence please, there is a bit of a seam showing on the side of the barrel, near to the mantlet/hull. Quick scrape with a knife or fine sandpaper would shift that.
That being said, it's a damn nice looking tank destroyer - good work so far. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished article!

I think you have to out a zimmerit. Correct me if I'm wrong but after re-working the Ferdinand, the Germans applied zimmerit.
Cheers

Thanks guys:
Dohhhhhhhh. Dang muzzle....need to fix that. As for Zimmerit, i though I read that some Elefants had it and some didnt. I know the Germans learned it the hard way at kursk when the Soviet Tank Destroyers had a field day with them (also because they had no secondary defences).
Yes Joerone, this is the one with the single track per side.
Thanks for picking up on my miscues.

There indeed minor differences between an Elefant and a Ferdinand and the most noticeable are as follows:
1) MG added to the Hull
2) Commander Coupola (from Sug III ausf G)
3) Improved armor (not noticeable)
4) Tracks are different - the Elefant have wider tracks with "v" chevrons
5) Zimmerit (all 50 or 48 Elefants )
6) The armor plate attached to the gun barrel was reversed
7) Tool stowage was revised and/or moved from side to rear -- including the hammer
Cheers.

Brian: You can do it...it'll probably take only 2 days to complete the zimm using the putty method. Others I read/hear use the cavallier zimm...I think its faster...

Hmmmmm
Warthog..I got adventurous lastnight and decided to try to apply zimmerit the putty way. Dont think it turned out too well. I tried making it with Testors Putty. Not a good idea. What a mess. I will post pics later.
What type of putty should I use to make better Zim? I heard about Cavalier sim and I have heard that it doesnt fit well all the time
Thanks in advance

Hi Brian,
For the flat surface I used Elmer's wood putty (my regular medium). I find it easy to use because its very easy to remove once I make a mistake -- just scrape them off. Sample below
If you are interested PM me...
Cheers
