Hello all.. those that may remember a 223 I built last month had some major decal problems. Namely old thick tamiya decals. In order to remove the decals, several sections of paint also came off the model.. I had to respray those areas and try to match the rest of the paint in with the model overall..

here are the results.. and the deacls are much better now.. i used some old dragon ones..

more photos and build notes can be found at the following link

My Sd.kfz 223 page.

comments welcome.. as always...

Nice looking model, maybe a little under weathered but thats just me.
for a Dak vehicle i would have gone with a dark yellow colour than a panzer grey.

happy modelling.
cheers karl

yep its a bit light on the dust..(though there is some its just hard to see in the pics)

I've depicted a newly arrived vehicle in North Africa in early 1941... of which the first shipments were overall dark gray and the crew hasn't had time to apply mud yet in the field..

Looks good Delbert, and your right, when the 15th Pzr Div went to Afrika their vehicles were Dark grey. Dark Grey vehicles mainly carried white outline crosses. but black and white crosses were used.
Only thing that puzzles me is the tactical marking for the Recon. Motorcycle?

Cheers

Hey Henk..
it was one of the options in the directions and I can find nothing that says it can't and some things that says its could have been..

Panzer colors II page 66 shows a sd.kfz 222 in the 1st motorcycle company of a recon battalion.. ..

I assume that other vehicles other than motorcycles were in those battalions.. same as you find 251's in towed artillery battalions.. they aren't artillery but they are there...

Hi Delbert,

Quite, I was not so much questioning the accuracy of your choice, but only wondering as it's not an obvious marking to pick.
I hadn't yet seen the picture you mentioned, only received my P C II last week.. Great book though, some great pictures to inspire..

Cheers

Ok Henk you got me...

Although I'm using my Panzer colors books to try and be more accurate with my german markings.. my choices were partly inspired by what I had laying around...

The orignal tamiya decals really screwed up..

see orignal photo here.

so after removing the 1st decals and repainting. I tried to stay away from the older tamiya decals and used dragon decals as much as possible..

which is why I used the white outlined black cross's which were not used overly much at the start were used some. I did pick the 15th as they arrived early in North Africa and fit the panzer gray paint scheme. then about the best decal I could find for the tacitical mark was the motorcycle battalion...
