Did the Canadians use Sherman Fireflies? I'm pretty sure the Brits used them in a 1:4 or 1:3 ratio of Fireflies to VCs. Now us being part of the Commonwealth, did we do the same thing. On that note, if we did, how accurate is the DML/Dragon kit #6121 Sherman Firefly?
Thanks for the help guys.

Yeah, as far as I know, Canadians used them pretty much the same as the Brits.
I have DML6121. It is a pretty nice kit, but I am actually modifying it to make a 75mm gunned M4A4. The major dimensional problems are that the lower hull is a little too short and the back of the turret comes out too far. I have shortened the hull already. If I can, I will post pictures of the progress of my Sherman tomorrow and point everything out.
Try this website, too. It has everything. Mike Canaday's M4A4 Kit FAQ
Hope that helps,
Nic

Yeah....what Folgore said.
I found the DML Firefly close enough for the girls I go out with though....didn't change a thing.
If it looks like a firefly....and talks like a firefly.....and walks like a firefly....then you've been using too much glue without a window open.......firefly's can't walk and talk!!!!

I've got the same kit and I haven't built it yet but I am looking forward to putting it together and I think I am going to do it out of the box. I have an old Verlindan turret that I am considering using but it has problems as well. Having fun on course I see. I remember a guy on my course who was anti-armour all he did was complain that he spent too much time driving the track and not enough time driving the body. Have fun, I hear the new format is a lot easier than it used to be. ( It must be if you have time to go online during the course!!!)

I'm building this Firefly right now also, and decided to do it OOB. I'm about to attach the cast hull front, and it seems to leave these two large gaps and steps on the hull sides behind the sprockets. My question is, is that was there a step here on the real vehicle, or do I need to do some serious worrying about how to get it smooth?
Any help appreciated.

The Canadian Army used three variants of the Firefly, the Sherman MkIC (standard M4 hull), Sherman Hybrid MkIC (composite M4 hull) and the Sherman MkVC (M4A4). The MkVC was the main type used in Normandy, but by the end of the year more MkIC/Hybrid MkIC were in service. All can be built using Dragon and Tamiya kits, though the Hybrid IC is getting hard to find.

Merk if you do a firefly do one with eduards pe set this adds lots of needed deatail.Like periscops on the hatches. Metal screens over the engine. All kinds of neat stuff. The hardest part about it for me has been the indi tracks the are horrible. I have been doing them almost over a month. Aside from that it is a pleasent build.

Andy, it's about the same except for the bogie units which are an inaccurate later type. They have been "borrowed" from the Italeri Sherman, and can also be found in #6035 and the one with the aircraft rockets. These have been corrected in the #6121 release.

Hello,
As stated above the Canadians certainly did use fireflies, in fact, my great uncle drove one! The DML kit looks good out of the box, however it diffenitly has it's flaws, such as incorrect bogie units, lower hull to long, ect. If you're really into details, you should try to get your hands on Mark Haywards Firefly book, wich is deffinitly the one stop referance for Sherman fireflie, it even includes information of modeling the firefly, I got the book during the summer and it's great...

The Canadians did use the Sherman Firefly. I´ve built one Firefly Vc from Dragon and finished it like a tank of the 27th Canadian Armoured Reg., 2nd Canadian Armoured Brig.

Is everybody prepared to build an after WWII Firefly in service with the 1st Regiment of the Italian Cavalry "Nizza Cavalleria" in the early 50s. I can make and provide the decals for free, and give all the instructions for a correct placement on the model. In exchange I ask only to have four pictures with four different views of the finished model to ber shown on the Regiment's page on my site www.cavalleriaitaliana.it

Doesn't the Dragon VC have Canadian markings? I know the Dragon IC kit has them.
(Sorry to ask, but I traded my Dragon VC for a Italeri DUKW. I built a VC way back in the Stone Age with an AEF Firefly VC kit ... did it in Three Rivers Regiment markings ... )

Yes, the #6121 release does have one set of Canadian markings. They are listed as:
27th Canadian Armoured Regiment, 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade, (Buron, France 1944)
The other markings are for:
3 Troop, A Sqd. Northamptonshire Yeomanry, France 1944
1st Krechowiecki Armoured Regiment Lancers, 2nd Warszawska Armoured Division, Italy 1945
captured example in German markings, France 1944
