Here is my entry so far. I plan to to add some guns and packs on the road from their "emergency bail-out " to complete the scene. this project had a lot of "firsts" for me and was a lot of fun. I found this photo while researching the Battle of the Scheldt and thought it would be fun to recreate it. I hope you like my interpretation of the guys hooking up the quad to be towed out of the water by an unseen vehicle. Comments and critiques are welcome.

That's an excellent build. Water can be a tricky and scary thing, especially for a beginner, and I think you nailed it!!

Wow..very cool!!..I agree with Alan..water is very tricky to work with..and you have done very well. I think with the added packs, etc. that you plan to add..it will be a great build. If possible..can you post a pic showing us the other side of the truck where it is sunk into the water..would love to see it...

GI, you have done an excellent job here!!! I am very impressed with how far you have come in such a short time. This is a great job and I only have one critique for you. It appears that the water is very calm where the front man is standing in it but this could be the camera angle. Perhaps next time a few ripples could be added. This can be accomplished by dragging a nail or something like it around in the water. For ripples I draw a lazy s across the water and for around something like a foot I would draw circles making them bigger as they move away from the foot. I really like this it is an excellent piece of work!!! Cheers Kevin

thanks for the comments - i'll take a right side pic when i get the gear finished. the water was a trial for me, and i'm considering using something else for next time. (it might just be that trying to mix this stuff up while standing out the back garage door at 20 degrees with no work surface was not the best condition for first time resin-use) I wasnt able to do ripples, but i did paint on some effects. i'm hoping they will give the illusion to some water movement.

Well researched and modelled; nice choice of subject. Even the 'Quad' looks suitably wet and rained on! Very evocative of that period in the war.

GI
A fun dio. It's great seeing the actual pic, and your modeling rendition of it---very very good. What product did you use for the water please, and how did you apply it?
Congrats on a fine little scene.

Looks very good. I like the look of the water and the poses of the figures. Only thing is that it doesn't loo stuck enough to me. Looks like it could drive right out of the shallow hole it is in. Take a look at the actual pic, it has three tires sunk and is burried up to the axles. With yours, the left side is still on dry ground and less than half the right side tires are submerged. Having had to unstick many a HMMVW and other vehicles, this one looks drivable and not stuck.
Still looks great and I like what you have done though. Good job.

i used castin' craft clear plastic resin, found at michaels craft store. i mixed up the solution and tinted with paints to make it look like muddy flood water. i poured it into my base mould. make sure you have all crevices sealed is my tip to others out there that haven't tried doing this yet.
:) thanks for the comments

It's just 100% Walcheren; wet & muddy!!!
The water is exactly the colour what I would suspect it to be there.
Very nice you took inspiration from the picture that was also used (for the same reason) for the campaign banner.
My only addition would be a white star on the side of the truck, but further on it is an excellent piece of work!!
What figures did you use? I guess you altered them as well?
Paul

Very nice. I really like it a lot. I think you did an excellent job..especially seeing this is your first attempt at water..and despite the initial mishap with that..it came out perfect i would say..
Great work!!

Dragon's British Infantry, Normandy 1944 kit was modified for use with the scene. I cut legs, hands and laps- resized an arm from another kit and swapped it because it matched the pose better than the fig's original arm.
007- went through so many websites looking for pictures and reading about the battles that took place at that location when i came across the the picture of some guys standing around and hooking up a cable to a sunken truck. i thought it was pretty cool and went through the whole building process, posted my dio pictures and then went to the campaign page to make sure that yes, i had signed up for the campaign... then the picture on the campaign page catches my eye.. it was the same as the one i used for my dio inspiration! I felt like a total dweeb because it had been in front of me all along, i just hadn't noticed it.

Well some things happens...
I bought a kit once and I was very happy with it, only to notice when I came home that I had it already in stash....
