hi guys here is an update of my first scratch build/ photoetch/ modifying project. The only thing to add is the chain block and tackle from the dragon wagon. Next step to prime and paint the interior of the cab so it can go togeather. Any comments would be welcome.

I love it. How did you make the boom?
Are you going to give her Aussie markings?

the boom was cut out of flat .5mm card and then I glued the strips on to make the 'I' beams. I tried to bend evergreen 'I' beam but it kept twisting at the same time. So a to scale beam was made using my 1/35 scale plans which I created. The Decals will be US as the Aussie army did not have these trucks with the round US style MG mountI love it. How did you make the boom?

Ron
Hi Ron, the base kit is the Italeri water tank truck but I have discovered since that I could have used the Heller Pompier fire truck. I used the Eduard photoetch set for the water tank truck for the cab and Eduard set of the Tamiya GMC353 for the deck as the next model will be the Tamiya GMC with CMK fuel tank conversion on the back. After that airbourne GMC both Aussie type and US type. Why both? the Aussie one used a closed cab with the roof cut off and the US the open cab.

a few questions
What scale is it?
what theater do you plan to put it in?
are you going to have it in a diorama? :-)

it is 1/35 scale and I am not sure yet which theater to do it in. I will not be doing a diarama as such but I will probably do one figure with it to give a sence of scale to it.a few questions

That is a beauty, can't wait to see the final product. Wreckers have always been a secret passion of mine, wish I could spring for the $200.00+ that the Diamond T goes for. I'm hoping that when you finish you will do an article that shows what you did, I know I for one would sure appreciate it if you did. Thanks for sharing your work.

Thanks for your kind words. I too would like the Diamond T however it will have to wait a long time. As I am shifting house in the next few days the finishing will be delayed probably until after Christmas. An article? I will do one in time on this and possibly the next two projects which will be two airbourne GMC-CCKW's. One Australian style and one US type. That is a beauty, can't wait to see the final product. to Rick and the others who have given me encouragement to carry on. This one has been delayed a little as it is in the workshop itself after dropping off the model bench and breaking a little when it hit the floor. However after the panelbeater pulls finger and finishes.......... IT WILL RETURN!!!!!!!!!!

I agree that an article would be great. I have thought of doing a civialian 1930's tow truck but could never figure a way to make the curved boom. Thanks to you I now know how to do it. Great work! Can't wait to see the finished model.

the problem with using the Tamiya kit is it has a wooden rear deck where as the trucks with the #7 wrecker set fitted were all steel decks so you would have to build a new rear deck as well, just like I did. Once I tidy the plans up I will make them availiable to those that would like them.
