Tamiya's Cromwell built as a remanufactured centaur (hence the mix of production features)

I used accurate armours PE set, same price but a lot better than tamiyas own set

Markings are Welsh Guards, from the kit but mixed around a bit.

I wanted to depict a well worn machine so used maskol for the patchy, worn whitewash, then added scratches.

Still needs mud adding to the running gear and lower hull and and a wash.

I am going to use a couple of figures from warriors cromwell crew with the tank.

Any feedback would be appreciated

That looks mighty good! Nice subject to do! Its added on my wishlist! Eh the only thing i would to comment is that have you considered to make the white more off-white?

Daniel,

the wash will be a mixture of olive green and brown, as this makes the whitewash look more opaque.

Photos of British armour from the time shows the whitewash was quite thick, as not much of the base colour would show through, for example

Looks good so far. Will the jerry cans be fastened down in any way?

If you do use kit tracks, be careful. They are slightly too tight, one of mine snapped shortly after I did them.

Thanks for the replies chaps,

Im going to add a tarpaulin over the top of the jerry cans, which will be tied down with rope.

Dave, i am going to use the kit tracks. This is the 3rd Tamiya cromwell ive built, and ive never had any problems with the kit tracks. I think they are very good for vinyls.

I still have a lot of detail painting and washes to do so ill post more pics once they are on. Im also going to add a canvas muzzle cover when i get the time.

regards

Joe

Very nice indeed Joe!

Is there any chance that you will be using pigment powder to add some character to the snow?

Looking forward to the finish product.

Hi Joe,

Fantastic kit you have underway there. How do you get the paint chip effects? I am trying to get back into my modelling after a long lay off and any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Joe, very nice job! What are using for your base coat? I have a couple cromwell chassy kits but don't what to use the flat earth or US OD route. I'd like to find a nice bronze green for them and my firefly. STUG

Thanks for the replies guys,

The base colour is a mixture of tamiya acrylics, unfortunately i cant remember the exact colours i used.

I have since switched to vallejo and use a mixture of their US OD and Russian green. British SCC15 faded to a more greenish shade than US OD.

Im told that White Ensign Models produce the most accurate British SCC15 but i have yet to try it.

The chipping is created with humbrol maskol.

First get a piece of scotchbrite torn up to spread the fibres and use this to add areas of heavy chipping.

When you are happy with that get a cocktail stick or thick sewing needle to add smaller chips.

The good thing about maskol is its easy to remove if you make a mistake or dont like the effect.

Once the whitewash is on i used a small brush and some OD paint to add the scratches.

I havent done much more on this one as ive been building a Marder 3M.

I broke my foot on an exercise at Catterick a couple of weeks ago so ive had a bit more time for modelling than usual!

Cheers

Joe
