Hi,
Below are some pics of my current project. Its basically OOB except for some minor modifications (minor) to the kit such as
1) scratchbuilt engine screen
2) made the hull hatches movable
3) additonal lifting hooks on the turret
4) some wiring for the headlight and horn(?)
Other pics can be found here
My KV-2
Any comments +/- are very much appreciated.
Happy New Year

Very nice mods. I can't believe you were able to drill the holes for the hinges. I am doing research into the KV2 for an upcoming dio. Mine will have a few holes punched through that obnoxoiusly oversized turret by a Tiger I

Pretty unlikely that a KV2 would ever have met a Tiger... There were few in left in service in 1943/43...
Arvin, you're doing a nice job on that - i'm lucky, I have the new Eduard set , so apart from bending the replacement grilles,I have everything I need to take a KV to the 'next' level...Jim

looks good so far, Arvin.
Are you planning on adding an interior kit if one becomes available?
Is that preshading I see in the side views? (++) (++)

Thanks for the positive comments guys.
Alan: Its easy to do for the rear hatches, I used 0.4mm bits from Tamiya. The hard part was for the drivers hatch...I had to fabricate a hinge using sprues.
Jim: Its really good that you guys have those PE available there. Here it would be very costly to buy them online as well as shipping them. That's probably one of the reasons why we constantly look for alternative materials :-) . BTW the screen is actually from a plastic purse/make-up kit w/c just cost me less than a dollar (it would last me probably 10 or more kits)
Carl: Actually I was planning on scratchbuilding some parts of the interior particularly the driver side, but I can't find any reference materials. My intention was not to pre-shade the kit, they are actually oversprays (spraycan) while I painted the insides matt black due to lack of interior
Thanks again guys...

Because of my eagerness to make the hatches movable I created my own problem :-) ...now I'm forced to make a mock interior so that in the event that someone to peek inside...he/she would at least see something :-) .
Below are some pics of my stupid attempt to make a mock interior at least for the driver side... :-) . Everything is not in scale and I'm even not sure if that's how it looks inside. Now my only problem is the rear hatch interior...
Laugh all you want coz I'm laughing at what I just did
:-) :-)
Cheers

Here are some more pics of the painted KV-2.
All kinds of comments are very much welcome...BTW, there are still some parts not attached because I forgot to paint them...:-)

Its wrong...I only found out right this moment :-) ..the driver is seated at the middle and not at the side. Hmmm...not weathered yet (except for the lower hull and tracks).

Any comments about the color I used for the KV-2? I'm not really sure if the shade is near correct...its just based on the box art. I looked in Tanxheaven about the color, but some say that the K2 there was re-painted ...so I'm not sure if that was the original shade of green...
Thanks

I painted mine a bit darker shade.I would leave the driver's hatch wide open though,I don't think they had torsion springs to 'pop" them up a bit. (++) (++)

Hi Warthog! Nice job on your kv!
Im considering getting one for my stash also.
Only one comment: I dont think KV series tanks had rubber bands around road wheels, they where rather entierly made of steel and therefore should be gunmetal or even silver where the whels touch the track . It isnt so obvious from the photos but if you painted it gunmetal then it should be ok.
Happy Modeling!

Carl: I can't open them further because the arm is preventing the hatch to open more. I already broke the arm/hinge once :-) . Thanks for the advice.
Pedro: The roadwheels were originally painted with the same color (green) and them shaded with pencil graphite. I'll probably dry brush a little gun metal to differentiate more...thank for the advice

Here is the latest update to my current project.
I modified one of the tool box to have an open cover...I plan to put something there. I also added a spare fuel drum from my spare...the straps and mountings were scratch built too using aluminum sheets and styrene.
Here are some more pics. I also added a common Russian slogan "Za Rodinu" (For Homeland). I still have to weather this kit. Comments are very much welcome.
Cheers
EDIT: Here is a closeup of the tool box(?) and the hook attached to the engine cover (sratched)...

Great work, Arvin. I like how you have posted all the in-progress shots, and that link to your photo gallerie. Thats good to go
I really like the paint finish you have acheived with the Russian green. That shading/tone effect you have going there is excellent.
One nit-pick though. On that shot of the drivers compartment, not only do you need to move the drivers seat (and controls) to the center, but you will need to add torsion bars as well. I know your kit is already built, but I just noticed that they were missing.
Other then that, you have done an excellent job !
"For Stalin !!"
Cheers !!

Maybe it is just a field modification? Its wrong...I only found out right this moment :-) ..the driver is seated at the middle and not at the side.
Looking great Arvin. There's a chance I'll build a Russian piece before a German if I decide on a change!

The hatches at the rear are for access to the final drives

shows the final drive in profile, not much else on the net AFAIK.
