Please ignore the other "Finish T-38" thread. This is where I wanted to post this!

Here´s a few pics of one day´work. It´s the Zvezda T-38 in Finnish markings.
It´s my first tank ever and I wanted to try out the chipped paint effect.
Tank is shown in clumsy (field modification?) winter camo, painted over olive green. I used Lifecolor olive green acrylic as a base colour, then added a layer of white enamel and finally sprayed it all over with warm white car paint. I let it dry for fifteen minutes. Then I took a bad brush and applied thinner over the model, small area at a time. Using a toothpick I scrubbed some paint off. Next I added some rust and dirt stains using oils. I may have overweathered it already, but I can always make up a story where this tank has been abandoned for some time before the Finns aquire it...

The model is going to get some heavy mud in the wheel area and I think I´m gonna display it as a small vignette, with a lonely walking soldier offering some tobacco to the tank commander for a ride in a horrible weather.
Some details (like tools) are still unpainted.

The kit itself was actually very pleasant to build. For a tank beginner like myself the half-individual track links gave enough to worry. Of course, I assembled the tracks going in the wrong way...
I replaced the useless DT machine gun with a Model Kasten one, scratchbuilt the top hatch and engine grille plus some details here and there. Towing cable was replaced but I used the ends of it. I´m still wondering if the blue stripe should go around the tower...

Comments and critic very welcome!

Thanks Adam for the reference!

Thanks for comments!
I got this painting technique from the great site: Knife & Brush Workbench
It´s not in English but the pictures speak for themselves! I hope one day I can show off Dr.Ahn quality stuff!

For your first armour subject, you sure have alot of balls to weather it so much
Nice work, maybe you will become a permanent armour modeller?

Heh thanks!
I´m not sure about the weathering because there are no reference pics available on this. I wanted to try it out because I thought it would be very challenging...
What else can you do to weather white surface except rust and dirt stains? Is there a general, proven technique to dig up the details without making it a piece of rusted junk?
Pre-shade?
In this T-38 there is two different white shades visible. On top there is this warm yellowish white and under that, bright white. Some of the brighter white shines through. This effect shows in the picture taken from above.
The rusty feel will diminish when I place this vehicle in a base with dark mud and add some splashes in the tracks and wheel area. Tank is also still waiting for pastel treatment.
More pics are coming soon!

Toni,

Your T-38 is certainly looking great! I hope mine comes out half as well. I am mostly done (just have to add a few rivets that were lost during the build of the turret) building and then I can begin painting and weathering.
