Howdy all! Aside from trying to figure out this digital camera business (Gotta hit the photography forum tomorrow) I found some time to try a display with mud. The kit is the Mlitary Wheels 1/72 GAZ-63A with assorted stowage raided from the spares box. The mud is Woodland Scenics Plaster Cloth drybrushed with poster paint and covered with Future. Hope ya'all like it and as usual any and all comments are welcome.

Thanks for your time and Happy Modeling!

Nice, I like the base. It's nicely integrated.
The mud from the side looks very good. The transition from grass to mud is a bit abrupt, but not to bad.
I would add a bit more dark wash to the wall.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try that out when I get home. I wonder if SWMBO will let me mix it up in a good glass. lol

excellent first attempt i would say.

2 points:

1: I suspect there would be more build up of mud on the sides of the tires and in the hubs. it sort of looks like they have recently been splashed with muddy water rather than dredging through the quagmire represented on the base.

2: the demarkation on the base between muddy road and clean foliage is far too crisp - mud splashes and spray from the wheels would quickly cover the nearby plants. plus, drivers rarely plunge through the thick of the mud once conditions get like this - they tend to start driving on the side, and so the road gets broader and the sides get prograssively muckier. think of a dirt path that is muddy - no one continues to walk through the mud but tromps on the side to varying degrees. plus you have mud sloshed up on the vehicle, so why not the surrounding ground cover?

anyway, promising technique there, and i shall give it a go sometime.

I like it allot. It is to glossy though. I would use some flat earth tones with that gloss and see what you come up with. Remember mud is wetter in places but dry in others. Good luck.
