Rob Feehan shows us his Canadian Leopard C2 close up.
Rob says:
"This is my Canadian Leopard C2. The project started in 2005 as part of the Canuck Steel Campaign for Armorama. The model is the 1/35th scale Revell Leopard 1 A5 kit. Added to this were the Maple Leaf Models C2 conversion which is mainly replacement resin parts and a new turret bustle for the kit. Also added were MLM fuel and water cans (Canadian Army patterns), decals from Quartermasters Depot and home made camo nets.
It is painted with Tamiya acrylics using NATO green as a base after a black basecoat with several lightened shades of NATO green applied to break up the monochromatic look as well as add some weathering to the green. Black pin wash was used sparingly to bring out some details and the whole tank was dry brushed with another lightened shade of NATO green. After decals were applied the model was lightly over sprayed with 90/10 Buff to give it a dusty look.
The camo nets are simple white gauze bandages dyed dark brown, then dipped in thinned white glue which then had kitchen spices added to them to simulate the plastic leaves in the real nets. After this dried they were airbrushed with several greens and browns to give them a realistic coloring. Base is a simple wood plaque from a craft store. To this I added a home made nameplate using my printer to make a color label which I glued to a cut piece of plastic stock and attached this to the base after giving it a couple of protective gloss coats to seal the lettering.
The project took several months and was very enjoyable to build particularly since I am very interested in Canadian Armor. I have plans to do an early C1 as well."
Thanks Rob
Vinnie

The cammo nets look great - the tank isn't bad either... . Thanks for explaining your technique.

Vinnie,
You have done a very respectable piece. She looks great. I will deffinatelt use your C2 as a pic ref. when I build my Canuk Leo. I like your suttle shade technique and paint finish. The camo net is the same idea I use, I think its a very good attempt for a realistic net. A++++

Learn something new on this site everyday. Never knew the Canadians used German hardware but i guess so does the other half of the world.
Very nice build Rob. Very interesting way of making the camo net. Im curious on which kitchen spice you had used for it. Was it basil leaves? If so, is simply painting over them with acrylics good enough to preserve them? Im just wondering if they would stand the test of time.

Wow, Rob, awesome work !! Glad to see you finished it. I remember you sending me in-progress shots. Great build review as well. I may have to save this for trying out some of your techniques.
Good to go ! Thanks for posting Rob Feehan's work. Rob used to be a member of my modelling club, Nordland AMPS when he lived here in MA. This Leopard C2 is amazing
